Door County is an outdoor lover's paradise. The county is the "thumb" in Wisconsin, with Green Bay on the west and Lake Michigan on the east, with 300 miles of shoreline. There are 5 state parks in this county, with Peninsula State Park in Fish Creek my favorite. You can take a nice drive through the park overlooking Green Bay, climb up a fire tower, visit a lighthouse, go camping, hiking, biking, kayaking, swimming, boating, fishing and skiing in the winter. The numerous trails are well maintained. In summer, there is an outdoor theater that gives nightly performances. They are usually comedies about life in the midwest and often sold out. Make reservations for camping early as the campground is often full.

If you like lighthouses, this county has plenty. 10 of them - Cana Island is probably the most popular. A short walk across ankle deep water is required. The county also has more than a dozen county parks. The Ridges Sanctuary in Bailey's Harbor provides a peaceful walk through the beach ridges of Lake Michigan and also has the Bailey's Harbor Range Lights. If you're hungry, try a Door County Fish Boil.

Take the ferry to Washington Island and Rock Island across "Death's Door" - the strait known for its many shipwrecks. Enjoy some fudge or bike around Washington Island. No motor traffic allowed on Rock Island, so enjoy hiking out to the lighthouse or backpack camping. For good old-fashioned fun, grab some hand-dipped ice cream and head to the drive-in movie theater in Fish Creek.

Door County is great for families and also for those out for adventure. They have their Pirates Cove miniature golf course and also parasailing in Ephraim. There is something for everyone here.

Now it isn't exactly "life-changing" for most, but it is very rewarding to those who spend time here.
