I would highly recommend this charming B&B if you're going to be in the Mount Vernon, La Conner area. We had a party of six adults (all women) and we had booked the attic two-room suite. When we arrived, we were given another room on the second floor at no charge! We pretty much had the run of the house, and the owners of the home were very accommodating and gracious! Breakfast the next morning was served in the sun room - scrambled eggs with gouda, oatmeal buttermilk pancakes and the best bacon ever! Along with coffee and juice and freshly made fruit smoothies! Keep an eye out for Jerry the cat - he's a total cutie and he'll make your heart melt!

My time in Kelso was great with the trip to Mt St Helens and out along the Columbia River to the ocean. From there I drove north through Seattle and stayed at the Riverbend campground in Mt Vernon, WA.

I was very lucky during the three weeks I stayed here because the weather was just perfect. No rain at all. They reminded me that this good weather window only lasts three months a year and the balance can be miserable.

Made several side trips out to Anacortes Island where I found a nice park with great views of the ocean and the many islands that are there. Took a ferry ride from Anacortes out to San Juan Island, Friday Harbor. Rented a moped and rode around the island which was fun. On the ocean side, I stopped and watched a pod of Killer Whales close to shore feeding on salmon. It was almost impossible to get good pictures of the whales because they only surfaced for a second and then back down.

Drove down to Seattle and took a great tour of the Boeing aircraft plant. This building ranks among the largest buildings in the world measured by volume. It was an interesting tour looking down from a catwalk onto the manufacturing floor and seeing wide body passenger planes under construction.

On a return trip to Seattle, I watched the world class unlimited hydroplane boats race. Got lucky and got a pit pass which allowed me into the pits where the boats were being stored and prepared for the races. Seeing these boats race across the lake with speeds in excess of 150 mph was quite a show. Later that day, the Blue Angels flew their show but because of the shape of the lake, they were too far away to make the show a great one.

Summary:

Elk Lodges:, 28, Escapee RV Parks: 10; Public RV Parks: 13, National Parks: 29, Major Ships: 5, Forts: 15

Expenses: 16 months traveling with an average of $1874 / month

It was a perfect hotel for our needs. Very friendly service, extremely clean. It did offer a continental breakfast daily - which was doughnuts and muffins, but we are not big eaters, and this suited us great. The staff was very welcoming and we felt safe and enjoyed our stay!
Although it was located right beside the I5, we did not hear any noise of the highway AT ALL!!!
