I don't know what it is about San Diego but every time we get there I feel like I just got home. I love it there, the weather is perfect, the people are really laid back, and well the beach is always a big plus in my book. We got to our friends Gennie and Mike's place around 4 in the afternoon. We decided to go hang out for a bit at PB bar and grill for a beer and dinner. After dinner we went to Sinbad's hookah bar down the street for PB bar and grill. We had a pretty chill night and crashed early.

in a suburb of San Diego......

you will find this town called Ocean Beach....small shops, and one of a kind restaurants...

Here in Ocean Beach you can find the one and only Hodad's. The definition of a hodad is "one who comes to the beach and acts like a surfer, but never does.....a.k.a "the poser"".

If you are looking for a heart attack, here you go. Wait....I didn't tell you about the place.

Hodad's is very lively with tons of people in and out. Hodad's should be classified as a museum. It seems to have been around for quite a while.....has several hundred license plates adorned on the walls and ceiling, some quite funny....

Walk in, pick up a menu (if you don't already know what you want) and hope to find a seat.....I was almost at a point of asking other people if my friend and I could sit at their table....and then a couple seats were spotted at the window (bar type seating). The window was without glass so you could get some fresh air and have an unobstructed view of all that walked past. I can just imagine the sight in the summer time.

Being the first time at Hodad's I quickly reviewed the menu. A bacon cheeseburger was selected, my friend a double. We ordered some "Frings"...french fries (wedge style) and thick onion rings mixed together served with ranch on the side (ketchup is already on the counter along with tabasco or other hot sauce varities)...btw...the frings are plenty enough to share. And lastly, my friend ordered a chocolate shake.

The wait staff very excellent....seems like everytime you needed a refill or anything someone just popped up.

So if you haven't figured it out yet....this is a very hole in the wall famous for those who know and locals of course hamburger joint. I spoke about that coronary. Well the hamburger was huge with good flavor and the bacon such good quality, the cheese so thick....they don't scrimp and scrape.

I left there stuffed.....

Best hamburger in San Diego, maybe even in the world.

Be patient with parking, and seating....there isn't a lot of either, but they make up for it in quality and quantity.

Everyone knows that if you visit San Diego, California, you will see the ocean. Well there are twenty beaches in San Diego alone, and I want to mention one... Ocean Beach. This small board short, tank top wearing community is very laid back and friendly to tourists.

Feel free to visit the small shops on the strip and have a day of laying out in the georgeous San Diego sun on the beach with the ocean waves roaring in the background but one hidden spot that tourists don't know about is Sunset Cliffs!

Sunset Cliffs is a beautiful grassy area on the cliff tops of Ocean Beach where you can come and picnic and have a romantic getaway with your significant other. The sunset is the most brilliant I have ever seen. Take a look at the photo!

If you are on the beach, looking up at the cliffs, take a look and see if you see the face in the rocks of the cliff... I have attached a photo for you to stare at. Do you see the face?

This is an excellent place to get food and beer right off the beach (end of Newport Ave). When I go here, I usually get the baja fish tacos. Very delicious and filling without the expensive price. People that I work with have nicknamed it "Gods" cause we like it so much. There are defintely busy times in the evenings during the summer months, but if you are patient, a seat will open up soon. Just get a beer or something to tie you over.

Ocean Beach, or OB as it's called locally. This is where you want to go if you come to San Diego!

Unlike most of the coast which has been taken over by the rich, Ocean Beach is a last bastion of surfers, hippies, bikers, and students. Click on "City: Ocean Beach, California, USA" above for my description of the town..

Here are some pictures of things to do there, and a couple reviews. I live 5 minutes from Ocean Beach, so I'll keep adding to the reviews over time.

Again, I haven't stayed here, but cruised by to check it out for some people coming to town...

Ocean Beach Hotel is located at the beach at the end of Newport Avenue. I've seen it for years but had never gone in. It's kind of cool, the rooms surround a courtyard and garden in the middle, and the western rooms have an ocean view.

It's pricey for a funky town like Ocean Beach, with rooms varying with season and view between US$100 and $250 a night, but that's sort of a "bargain" with beachfront hotel prices in southern California. It's an older, but nice place, well kept and clean, the staff seemed friendly. It's a 15-second walk to the beach with surfing, swimming, fishing pier one way, and all the cafes, shops, and night life the other way.

Ok, I haven't actually stayed here, but I've had a few requests to check it out for people visiting...

Ocean Beach International Hostel (The OBI) is right in the middle of the block on Newport Ave., the entertainment center of Ocean Beach, a couple blocks from the beach. It's surrounded by cafes, clubs, surf shops and surf/bike rental places. It's a little hard to get a spot in the summer because of the prime location, and because it's such a nice hostel. Check the website for info.

It has the usual porch out front with lots of backpack toting, guitar playing travelers, an indoor common area, dormitory style sleeping, and some private rooms. Breakfast is included and plenty of cheap food is available within a block, round the clock. You probably won't get a lot of sleep there, but it looks like a cool place- I'm jealous I can't stay there!
