We did a short hike around recent (late 1800s) lava flow, which has impressive ropey pahoehoe lava flows. The cool thing is that the Galapagos are geologically (volcanic eruptions) and evolutionarily (flora and fauna developed in relative isolation until recent history) similar to Hawaii (although Hawaii is much older). All the volcanic terms here are Hawaiian words like pahoehoe and a'a lava flows and el pelo de Pele (Pele's hair). I made sure to stress the world importance of (the island nation) Hawaii in my translations.

We also saw hornitos, little volcanos created from escaping gases. We then spent some time chilling on the beach. I was chatting with Pancho (the sailor on the boat) and Jacinto (the guide). It was surprising to find out that Pancho with the cute dimples was 21 and had a son who was 1.5 years old. Maybe not that surprising considering everyone here over 20 is just as likely to have a kid as not. Maybe it was surprising that he was still with the baby's mother. In any case, working back-to-back-to-back weeks cannot give him much time to be an involved father. Oh well...he had beautiful dimples at least.
