DAY TWO of the Beaches & Ruins Road Trip : PRIENE

Our first stop of the day was Priene, ruins of an ancient Greek city that date back to 350 B.C. We pulled in just as the first tour bus as getting there and we barely beat them through the gate! The site was quiet and felt secluded, plus there were nice shady areas from the large pines trees. Very nice.

You must have a very good imagination to visualize the buildings that once stood in this city, as much of it is missing or lying in heaps on the ground. The German archeology team in charge of the site helped us out by producing excellent signage, including an illustration that shows the city as it once was. I think it’s amazing they can figure that out.

This was a nice stop…recommended. As always, go as early as possible to beat the heat and the crowds.
