There are a lot of beautiful lakes in the Canadian Rockies. This is my personal favourite. Or better say: it provides my favourite viewpoint.

The lake is located in the Banff National Park and can be easily accessed from the Icefields Parkway close to the Bow Summit. A short trail leads from the parking lot to a spectacular viewpoint (picture). If you are in a hurry this is a perfect sight for a short stop.

Hot tip:
Come to Peyto Lake in the early morning. For one thing the lighting is perfect. For another thing you avoid the crowds of tourists who cover the place late in the morning and in the afternoon. The above-mentioned easy accessibility is the only drawback of the lake. Come 11 am and you will have to share the viewpoint with hundreds of tourists. This was the case during my first visit. It took me five minutes to get a space in the front row.</p>
