Well we (Steve and me) are now in Midland Texas... It was intersting getting here as over New Mexico we had a Vacuum failure... Not a good thing to have in your plane. Especially at night over the mountains flying IFR. But don't worry about it. Just know that you can call me Macguyver from now on. And i will always have a spare AAA battery no matter where i go. I would be willing to explain the fiasco in more detail but from here in goes into aviation jargon, and frankly, I don't want to bore you. Just know that we almost died but I pretty much saved the day with a AAA battery and some electrical tape.

Then when we got down i went to Mickey D's. Texas was boring. This line has been up for almost two years and I just wanted to clarify that Mickey D's refrers to McDonalds and NOT Mickey's 'fine' malt liquer.
Hope you are enjoying the trip and stay with me because I have more years to report.

While in Midland, I visited the Confederate Air Force Museum which changed names to the Commemorative Air Force this year and moved to Harlington, TX. The museum is quite well done with a good history of the two world wars from an aviation standpoint. The actual plane displays were a bit disappointing with not as many interesting planes as I had expected. The highlight was a completly restored B 17 bomber which is one of the very few still flying. Sentimental Journey is it's name and I have seen it fly at several West Coast air shows. It's a beauty.

Also at Midlandis an Oil Museum that was fantastic. Given all of the Texas oil money in this area, it's no wonder that they spared no expense in the construction of this museum. Both Bush Presidents lived there and they offer tours of the houses they lived in. The oil museum walks you through the whole process of finding, drilling and pumping the oil out of the wells. That sounds rather simple but to actually see the process laid out step by step is very interesting and informative. Outside the museum they have displays of drilling rigs from the beginning of the industry to current huge rigs. One of which stands outside the building. A very good well laid out museum that I enjoyed a lot.
