"We'll take the scenic route" says Andrew as we get ready to travel. It certainly proves to be just that and lots more thrown in! Fjord after fjord, lakes and mountain. Alders, larch, raspberry canes, bilberries grow on these mountains. Our progress is slow as it is not possible to drive fast on these winding roads. The landscape changes to open moors with huge boulders the size of mountains half burried on the ground. Suddenly we are on a one lane road that has been stitched on to the side of fjord and I am able to see a miniscule flash of the sea way, way down below the steep drop off the side of the road, as I dare not take my eyes off the road while searching anxiously for campervans coming from the other direction.

We have travelled about 125kms in 3 hours and buy some rolls and fillings for lunch at a small town. Our plan was to get to Kristiansund and check out tickets on the car ferry at 7.15am next day, but we find ourselves in the port at 4.30pm with a ferry departing at 5pm or an opposition line leaving 30 mins later. Get a price from one company for 92.30 Euros but it's landing port is not where we want to land. The opposition's fare is 123 Euros and would take us to Histfals, Denmark where we want to be, but Andrew asks if they would match the price o the others!! The woman offers us the fare for both of us and the car for 91 Euros and we happily accept. Lesson learned here..... ask and they might negotiate. Find that the ferry was once operated by Burquebus in South America who we travelled with from Argentina to Uruguay. Many families with their dogs making the trip.

Leave the ferry at 7.30pm and go to the closest camp ground where a pheasant scuttles across our path. Set up tent and meal and take a long walk to the sandy beach through moorland getting back at 10 pm with still enough light to read my book by! Another long drive ahead of us tomorrow to get to Holland.
