Everybody in The Netherlands and probably a lot of people in coutries around The Netherlands know the Efteling park. This themepark is the number one touristic attraction and that's for a reason. The park has been chosen the best themepark of Europe several times. The park is officially exisiting since 1951 but there already was a small playground for children and some sport fields before. In the years after the offical opening the 'fairy tail forest' began to expand and that's where the Efteling park is originally known for. Nowadays the Efteling also has rollercoasters and other fast attractions. Still it isn't a park only for young people. It's really a family park with attractions for every one. The fairy tail forest still exists and the last years, some new fairy tails joined the forest. Besides this part, there's a part of the park with an arabic theme, another part of the park is made especially for small children. There's also a part with rollercoasters and other attractions like these. I live very close to this part and had a membership for several years. Even though i've been in the Efteling many times, it's still a place i love to go to and i do that at least once a year. I can recommend every one who visits The Netherlands to go here. You'll have a great day. If you like, you can even spend a night in the Efteling hotel.

Efteling park; World of wonders!
It’s a beautiful park wich is build around different fairytales and legends. Most of the fairytales are written by Hans Christiaan Andersen.

Efteling History;
In 1933 two priests, Father De Klijn and Father Rietra, have the idea of setting up a sports park at the south of Kaatsheuvel. On 11 May 1951, the official opening takes place of the Tea House and of the renovated playground with about 16 different items of play equipment. In 1952 the Fairy Tale Forest is opened on 31 May. Anton Pieck drew the designs and Peter Reijnders was the technician who brought them to life.
From the 80th the park aims at becoming more than just a Fairy Tale Forest.Significant for the park are the designs by Anton Pieck wich can be seen in the beautifull style of building and fairy tales inside the park.

Nowerdays you'll find lot of different kind of attractions for everyone; young, old, alone or with whole family;
-rollercoasters.
-rollercoasters for daredevils
-Dream flight;Dream on, dream on in the Dream Flight, high up among the stars in your heavenly carriage. Dream your dream of pure gold, past the elves in the eternal woods.
-Carnaval Festival; travel the world!
-Gondoletta; small boats make a roundtrip over a beautifal part of the lake of the themepark
-Train; gives you a roundtrip through the whole themepark
-Fairy Tale forest
-Pirana; wild waterride
-Pandavision:In PandaVision, the panda is your guide on an exciting round-the-globe journey through Mother Earth’s overwhelming natural world.
-Game Gallery;Games can be played.
-The Efteling Theatre, the most wonderful things happen every day!
etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.
It is a pleasure for every one.

There are loads of places in the park where you can relax with a nice drink and some junkfood, but bring your wallet. It is quit expensive.

Of course you can find a lot of souvenir shops with a range of Efteling items. Ideal for gifts or to keep it yourself as a reminder of a wonderful day out.

Tip: When you are in the Netherlands in the summer (july - august) you must come then to this park. The Efteling Park is then opened from 10.00 am till 12.00 p.m. with live music.

I was a bit dissappointed when I saw the weather when I got up, but luckily it got better during the day. A bit nervous for my first meetup I got ready to catch my bus and train. Both left in time and I arrived in Tilburg just before half past 9 (the time I was meeting some of the others). I didn't see anyone yet so I had time to get some money from the ATM. When turned around to start looking for other people I saw two persons walking in my direction that looked familiar :) Soon some more TB's started showing up and also the meetup hostess Devika. She left with Guido and Jorien by car and the rest of just fitted in the bus to the Efteling that was a bit crowded.

At the entrance we waited until everyone arrived and (a bit later as planned) we entered the Efteling. In the morning we walked around in two groups. The group I walked around with started with the newest attraction de Vliegende Hollander. After that we went to the Python were we saw the other group too, just behind us. It became a morning full of rollercoaster rides because our next stop wat the Pegasus, this is a wooden rollercoaster. We wanted to go in the Fata Morgana as last attraction before luch but unfortunately the attraction was closed because of a failure. Instead we made a stop at the Spookslot on our way to the place were we would meet everyone for lunch. When we arrived at the lunchplace we didn't see any of the others although we knew they should already be there. Very fast we found out that we weren't at the right place, and when we arrived there we did see the others :)

After lunch we decided to start easy because of the full stomach and we went with the whole group to the Droomvlucht. Next stop was Villa Volta, it was very funny to see the faces of the people who had never been in there. The next attraction is one that has a song you can't get out of your head, a day later I still have it in my head :D We had a lot of fun singing the song and making a lot of pictures. Since lunch had been a while ago we could do another rollercoaster: Vogel Rok, this one is completely in the dark. Since the waiting time was very short (less than 5 min) a few of us decided to go for another ride. When we came out we didn't see the others anymore so we decided to go for another ride :) When we came out we found out the other had been sitting on a terrace and they had seen us come out and go in again. They even say they called for us but we never heard them. On our way to the Pandadroom we enjoyed the view over the park from the Pagode. In the Pandadroom we could lay our feet to rest while we saw the very nice 3D movie. They say time is flying when you're having fun and this was defenitly true for this meetup because it was already time for our last attraction since closing time was coming close very fast. We decided to go in the Pirana, we were just in time it closed just behind us. After some people looking strange at us since we were dancing while standing in line, most of us were lucky and didn't get wet at all, but a few off us did get some water over them. After a group picture it was time to go the exit. We made a short stop at the Sprookjesbos so Brett could see Langnek. At the exit we had to say goodbye to Jorien and Guido. The others got into a car and we drove back to Tilburg.

When you like theme parks you should defenitely visit De Efteling. It is the most famous theme park in the Netherlands and it is suitable for all ages. If you want to see everything 1 day isn't enough, especially when it is a busy day.
The park started out as a playground, later the Sprookjesbos (Fairy tale forest) was added, here you can see a lot of different fairy tales (desigened by Anton Pieck). And now it has turned into a theme park where all ages can have a great day.
In the dutch summer holidays the park has special opening times on saturdays, until midnight, and there is live music. In the winter they are open in weekends, but not all rides are open then.

We were (un)lucky since the weather wasn't very good in the morning, but this also meant it wasn't very crowded so we could visit a lot of atractions.

Todays plan was to go to the Efteling. An amusement park for the whole family with attractions like a rollercoaster, but also several represented fairy tailes. The park would be open from 10 to 10. We wanted to benefit from these summer opening hours. So at 9.00 we took of to Kaatsheuvel. We went to almost al the attraction and in the evening we went to the fairy tale forest.

My friends granddad couldn't believe we really stayed from 'dawn till dusk' in the park.

The Efteling is the most well known theme-park in our country and very populair with tourists. I really love the place. It’s a theme-park based on myths and fairy tales. The place has a dreamy look caused by the famous architecture by Anton Pieck. The Efteling started out as a sports park just for recreational purposes and then when more and more visitors came it became bigger in size and people started adding art exhibits and then somebody came up with the idea for the fairytale forest. From there they built more and more rides and it became the theme-park that it is today

Today was one of the best days I have had in a long time as Suzie and I spent 9 hours at a theme park (Netherlands most famous) that we had gone to as kids called De Efteling. We had picked a good day to go as there were no lines at any of the attractions because it had been raining for days and there was more forecast for this day.

The first place we went to was called "Panda Vision", an amazing place where you can experience all the best parts of nature (its definitely for kiddies but it was still nice to see). It had massive underwater areas, jungle area complete with an orang-utang, cold region with polar bears and an igloo and an African arid area with a lions den. All these areas were interactive and go into great detail.

now it was time to get wet! We went on a ride called the Piranha where you sit in a big ring and float gently down the river. That is until you reach the rapids and the fun really starts, it ended up being like bumper cars except we were hitting walls not other boats. It was a really fun trip and getting soaking wet was just luck of the draw as Suzie got hit by a massive wave and got completely soaked while I remained dry apart from the bottom part of my legs. My favourite moment was when the boat in front of us got soaking wet and a lady started laughing at them. Then our boat went under a waterfall and it only hit her seat! I couldn't stop laughing at her because she wasn't too impressed about getting wet.

Next came of of the newer more relaxing rides through the Fata Morgana, a beautiful Arabian building that had a boat ride through it. There wasn't a rush like the rapids but it was very nice looking at all the different Arabian scenes. We also went on the Pagoda, which is a massive revolving platform that goes up very high so you can see the entire park from above.

We next went to Suzie's favourite area from when she was 9 and today, it is called Sprookjesbos and is an area of de Efteling where all the fairy tales (real fairy tales and not that Disney rubbish) are. I remembered many of these fairy tales and cool scenes from when i was young. Suzie especially loved all the mushrooms and mushroom houses. I think we spent a couple of hours checking out every part of Sprookjesbos and I loved looking at it all.

After some lunch at the underwater themed restaurant called the Octopus we went on some more rides. One of the most beautiful rides is the Droomvlucht (dream flight) and is an amazing trip through a dreamland. You sit in a 2 person bubble connected by its roof to a track and cruise through the attraction.

We then went on a ride we knew nothing about called Villa Volta, it looks so innocent from the outside and the long story before didn't really give us any clues as to what the ride was. After walking through the house we got to this room with long benches with bars that went over our legs. It was then that I realized these bars meant that we were going upside down! This ride ended up being about a haunted house and we were sitting in a room that revolved around the house. The sides of the house moved and we went upside down and got to see every room as we spun in the air.

From that unexpected experience Suzie wanted to do something a little less sick inducing and thought Vogel Rock sounded like a peaceful ride. When we got inside I realized it was a massive roller coaster and suggested that she may want to do something else. This was a really quick roller coaster that spent half the time either upside down or sideways and I loved it! I tried to shoot some photos during the ride but none turned out :)

We also watched some very nice shows through out the day which included dancing lilies (very nice), a little match girl, Spooksalot (loved the music) and a couple of others but I forgot what they were called.

At the end of the day I just had enough time for 2 more rides, the first ride being the bob sled run. I really enjoyed this ride the most as it is literally a bob sled run down a track. The only disappointment was that it was over in about a minute, the high speed sideways turns were my favourite.

The very last ride we went on on was the rapid ride again as I enjoyed it before and I wanted a photo of the 2 of us on the ride. We had the boat to ourselves and were able to move around and avoid getting wet. This worked great except for the end when a fountain came out of no where and got both of us.

I did a lot more in the park than I have written about here, but it gives a good idea of the cool things that you can see at de Efteling.

The Efteling is a theme park In the Netherlands. It's one of the oldest theme parks in the world, but definitely not lacking in fun! It's different from other theme parks I've been to because of the location. It's located in the center of nature which gives you the feeling that you're in an actual fairy tale! The park is gigantic and covers 160 acres. The Efteling appeals to people of all ages. There are a variety of thrill rides based on fairly tales and stories. My favorite ride was the "Fata Morgana". A ride based on the Arabian Nights tale. You get on a boat and ride through an Arabian city. The scenery is beautiful and it's animated with life-like robots along the way! Another attraction worth mentioning is the fairy tale forest which is in a wooded part of the Efteling. A forest where a number of well known fairy tales inspired by the brothers Grimm, Hans Christian Andersen and Charles Perrault are depicted like the castle of Sleeping Beauty, The Little Red Riding Hood, Hansel and Gretel, etc. if more exciting rides are your style then youre in luck! The efteling has a few roller coasters! The newest addition is The flying Dutchman a combination of a Water coaster and a dark ride. Unfortunately it was under construction when i visited, but it may not be when you go! The price is about 26 euro and that includes all rides. the only extra costs would be for food or drinks. A typical Dutch way of saving is taking your own food. :) And make sure to dispose of your trash in holle Bolle gijs a trash can shaped like a man who has always his mouth open and is ready to eat all your papers.
