public transportation in düsseldorf is divided into 4 categories - subway, streetrain, bus and taxis (well as all of europe do :D)

for one destination - a "kurzstrecke" or short distance trips also known as ticket K (maximum of 3-4 stops) it costs 1.10 euros. and the long distance called ticket A (but only in the vicinity of the city) costs about 2.10 euros - for example you have to change from one train to another or bus or subway - you dont have to pay again because it is valid for 2 hours to reach your destination. BUT NEVER FORGET AFTER BUYING THE TICKET YOU MUST VALIDATE/PUNCH IT AT THE DESIGNATED VALIDATING MACHINES, because if not and controller came saw that you did not validate your ticket - you must pay 40 euros in an instant - and the worst thing is they dont talk in english so you cant argue anymore. (ive experienced this - it was horror :D and embarassing :D)

taxis start at about 2.50 - 3.00 euros (i dont know that much coz i dont use taxi cost its expensive)

or if you want to have a day tour of düsseldorf - you can buy the tagesticket or day ticket - or if you want to travel the neighboring cities of the ruhrgebit like duisburg, wuppertal, krefeld, müllheim, oberhausen and the south part of essen - it costs only 4 euros 1 way.

but again, never forget to validate you ticket - anyway even in the subway, streettrains and buses - they have validaiton machines.
