now as you might not know, not every lighthouse is accssible by land. some are out in the middle of a lake or ocean. Oient Point marks the end of Oyster Point Reef on the western side of Plum Gut. at 64 feet a flashing white light flashes every 5 seconds( origianal light was a fixed red fourth order frensel lens light). the tower is 3 stories high brick lined cast iron plate construction painted brown on top and white on bottom. its 24 feet tall 21 feet wide at the base, 18 feet wide at top and on top of tower is a watch deck. the foundation is a concrete-filled cast iron caisson made of curved plates bolted together 32 feet tall with a 25 foot diameter. there is no visitor center or tours for this lighthouse, it can be seen from the shore, the ferry or private boat.
