Mexico is a country located in North America, bounded on the north by the United States; on the south and west by the North Pacific Ocean; on the southeast by Guatemala, Belize, and the Caribbean Sea; and on the east by the Gulf of Mexico.

Covering almost 2 million square kilometers, Mexico is the fifth-largest country in the Americas by total area and 14th largest in the world, respectively. With a population of almost 109 million, it is the 11th most populous country and the most populous Spanish-speaking country in the world.

In 2005, Mexico was considered by The Economist to have the 10th richest economy in the world. In 2007, the Mexican Carlos Slim attained the title of richest man in the world.

Mexico is also home to over 60 indigenous groups, making it one of the most ethnically diverse countries in the world. Among these groups are the Mayans: a very intelligent people who are predominant in the Southern states of Yucatan, Campeche and Quintana Roo. Their ancient cities and temples can still be found throughout the Yucatan Peninsula and down parts of the eastern coast. Don\'t forget--the Mayas are the proud creators of the only \"official\" wonder of North America: Chichen Itza!

An ecologist may stand in awe at all the ecosystems to be found in Mexico: these vary from mountain ranges to deserts, from mangroves to tropical rainforests. Further, Mexico is a land of megabiodiversity. Mexico is a paradise! Come and ejoy it!

Mystery Solved and best layover ever...

So... it would appear that the reason that the trip from Phoenix to Cancun was taking me 9 hours flight time (12 hours door to door) was because there was a "secret stop" that no one at AeroMexico wanted to admit to - a three hour layover in Guadalajara, Mexico. That makes the tally for the trip if anyone is paying attention 2000 miles, 3 planes, and 12 hours.  Just to get to Cancun!  We landed on the tarmac and walked into a strange holding tank, where we were divided up by peop...

Speedway into the city

The following morning I was awoken by chickens. This was actually anticipated. What wasn't was that I suddenly felt like a pensioner climbing stairs. Now, it turns out that Mexico City is high up; 7,400 ft (2.2 km) to be precise and the chickens and I were higher up in the hills north of the city in Santa Fe!Priorities first, use the toilet and make tea. Ok, the toilet is a clever design - how can I say... it's silent. Which comes in handy when there are no doors in the apartment! Splashes an...
