As I add reviews to this site I want to highlight some of my favourite spots in England. Some will be very well known, others less so, and I hope all will inspire anyone planning to visit my country to see more than just London, wonderful though my home city is!

  1. Average priced "Sights & Attractions" in Bamburgh, England, UK
Bamburgh Castle stands on a massive outcrop of rock and towers over the sands below. Unlike many castles on this coast, it is still a family home, and thus far more complete than the ruins elsewhere. It is truly an impressive sight. There has been…
  2. Average priced "Sights & Attractions" in Lindisfarne, England, UK
Situated in the heart of the small village, the ruins of Lindisfarne Priory define what Holy Island is all about. The first monastery here was founded by St Aidan in 635 AD, and his statue stands among the ruins as a memorial to the Irish mission…
  3. Free! "Sights & Attractions" in Lindisfarne, England, UK
Only a small percentage of the many visitors who come to Holy Island ever visit its north shore. All of the visitor “attractions” (village, priory and castle) are on its southern side, and with limited time before the next high tide closes the ca…
  4. Expensive "Sights & Attractions" in Hadrian's Wall, England, UK
When you arrive at Housesteads the first building you’ll come to, right next to the car park, is the visitor centre. Here you can learn a little bit about the fort and surrounding area, buy souvenirs and light snacks (drinks, sandwiches etc.) and o…
  5. Average priced "Sights & Attractions" in Seahouses, England, UK
One of the most prominent of the few buildings on Inner Farne is St Cuthbert’s Chapel. The saint after whom it is named lived here as a hermit for about ten years before, in 684, he was called to be Bishop of Lindisfarne – a call he initially res…
  6. Average priced "Sights & Attractions" in Seahouses, England, UK
The first lighthouses on the Farnes were beacon fires lit on the top of existing towers, and the first of these probably Prior Castell’s Tower next to St Cuthbert’s Chapel. The first purpose built lighthouse was on Staple Island, in 1776, but thi…
  7. Expensive "Sights & Attractions" in Kielder, England, UK
Friends had told us about the evening events at Kielder Observatory and how much they had enjoyed them, so this year on our usual August visit to the North East we decided to spend one night in Kielder (which we normally visit just on a day trip from…
  8. Average priced "Sights & Attractions" in Kielder, England, UK
The highlight of a recent trip to Kielder was definitely our visit to this small but well-run birds of prey centre near the shore at Leaplish. There are a good variety of birds to see, many of them easy to photograph which we enjoyed a lot. Their enc…
  9. Free! "Sights & Attractions" in Druridge Bay, UK
The main attraction of Druridge is undoubtedly its wide expanse of sandy beach, stretching for seven miles from the village of Cresswell to the south almost to Amble in the north. Fringed with dunes, it provides a fantastic location for winter walks …
  10. Very cheap "Sights & Attractions" in Seaton Sluice, UK
When Sir John Hussey Delaval commissioned the opening of a new entrance to the harbour here, the Cut, a small piece of land became separated from the mainland (literally cut off by the Cut) and was transformed into an island, Rocky Island. This is ac…
