The BEST & HIGHEST pub in Ireland Nov 09, 2009
I am from a town quite near here and I have to say its an AMAZING place. Anytime there was a big celebration I always picked Johnnie foxes because its always a night you wont forget...even if you drink too much guinness!!

If you go on a trip to Dublin or even Ireland, you really will be missing out on a real Irish pub experience if you dont visit this place. The food is fantastic, the music is proper traditional music and the band can tell some good stories too. Be prepared to be singing at the top of your lungs at some stage because you just cant help yourself, the way the Irish like to. The band that play in the bar are great, but there is also a seperate part to the pub(kind of like a barn) that has proper profesional Ceili dancers doing their thing..its like riverdance on your lap, and they are wonderful!! The "Hooley night" is quality entertainment. I have been living away from my country for nearly 9 months and this is the one place I really miss! I bet you that if you met anyone who had been there, their feelings would be exactly the same...DONT MISS IT!! Im going home to visit family in December and shall definately pay Johnnie Fox's a visit. ENJOY "CRAIC AGUS CEOL" :)

-A tip from a regular customer...Dont drive if you dont know the roads, the road there is very dangerous and even is still hair raising to me after many years, especially with frosty roads...anyway, you want to drink lots of the black stuff dont you??? hahaha

The Highest Pub in Ireland! Oct 08, 2006
Established in 1798, Johnnie Fox's is one of the oldest pubs in Ireland. Renowned for being the highest pub in the country, if you can manage to find it. You would think being the highest one it would make the journey easier, but for some reason mine was not. Be sure to get better directions than I did. Preferably by someone who has actually been there!

Once you get there it is like stepping back to a much older time in Ireland. With lots of pictures and historical artifacts spread out on the lawn and sprawled across the interior walls. You really get a sense that this place has indeed been here for a bit. Putting it mildly I suppose considering this pub is almost older than my home Country.

I would say that the cost is fairly reasonable if you're not planning on drinking a lot. It can get costly but what restaurant doesn't these days when you start to add on drinks, etc. I went with some younger guys that I had met and their financial situation was a bit of a struggle, so they complained, but I found it to be well worth it and reasonable considering you are paying for nostalgia as well as food.

I had a steak and potatoes with a few other items and it was quite possibly one of the best meals I had my entire time in Ireland. I was so sad that I was about to leave on that big silver bird and had only been here once. It was a nice drive up the hill and not to far from where I lived, so I could have gone at least twice. The flavor in that steak was well worth a second trip in 2 months!

This place is definitely worth it, a piece of history and quite famous. I was surprised to see this is the first review for a tourist trap restaurant. Unfortunately most of my pictures came out really blurry because someone changed my camera settings... I was so mad at him... But here are a few from outside.
Old pickem' up truck.
Got to get one to prove I was here!
Sounds good to me.
