how to use a louage in tunisia Mar 02, 2008
If you travel in tunisia it is cheap and easy to take a louage. (exept during the rammadan)(short story: It is hard to get a Louage when it is about 5 รณ clock in the afternoon. Everyone wants to go home so they can have their dinner when the sun is down. Normaly the tunisian woman are quiet silent you hardly notice them. But when you need a louage, They change into very different persons. We have seen them fighting litterally for a louage. We had never seen something like this!!! We had to buy a louage and pay much more to go back to the place we stayed)

If you stay in Tunis and you want to visit Hammamet, you go by taxi to the louage station. There you buy a ticket to Hammamet. (don't listen to people outside the station that they can take you) You wait until the mini bus is full. They never stop during the trip. When you arrive in Hammamet they stop at the louage station. There you can take another taxi. (the prices are about 4 untill 5 dinar)

In the evening it is probably harder to find a mini van, but you can pay for the empty seats. So you always get there where you want to go. But be carefull with your money if you not quit understand the value. Some try to cheat on you. Never pay with euro's.

You also can go by train, but the schedule is not very reliable. We always travel by Louage. And if you think you are going too fast. Tell them "Imschi bischwaja" Phonetic. (don't drive so fast, slow down!)
