i dont know if other european cities offer this kind of premium. but here in germany they do (because travelling in germany by train is VERY expensive). they have the so-called night trains. in düsseldorf (for example)one can travel to paris, verona, milan, copenhagen, prague, bratislava, vienna, zurich, como, ljubljana and many other cities in europe - but not only in düsseldorf - you can also book from frankfurt, cologne, berlin, munich, stuttgart, hamburg and other big cities in germany. it ranges from ONLY 29++ euros (one way) that is really cheap. you start at midnight and arrive in your deistnation early in the morning. all you have to do is go to the reisenzentrum in the airport or central station and ask for details. or you can book directly in the website: www.nachtzug.de (just click the language selection) and gute reisen :D
and another thing, is the hitchhiking - but in germany they call it mitfahren (they bring you along if your destination is also the same)i used this, and it was really fun, you can meet lots of colorful people along the way (it is safe - because most of these are done by students who needs to save money for long trips) and really cheap - i used düsseldorf till stuttgart and thats about 500 kms, and i only paid 20 euros! and düsseldorf to paris - hmm between 600 kms is only between 30-35 euros and most of the drivers are bilingual or multilingual - german, english and french are common. but there's a little problem - you must have a basic knowledge of german to navigate the websites for they are in german: www.mitfahrzenrale.de or www.mitfahrgelengenheit.de |
