general advice - Thailand - TravBuddy

i would love to help you as much as possible. i dont know where to start unfortunately. the three kids, i hope that they are not picky eaters. the island is not the large, but the island does have a lot of western food due to the high turist population. thailand has only 3 seasons. our winter is thier winter, which is the best time to go, our summer is there monsoon, which is very dangerous in the south (people die from under current every year), and our spring is their summer. if the kids are used to camping and not having air conditioning, they should be fine. I HIGHLY SUGGEST YOU BUY some sort of mosquito repellant. i use "jungle juice" by REI. its 99% deet, and bad during long prolonged use, but ok if you use it for short periods of time. i dont think it is reccomended for children though. buy it for you and the wife. at first application, you will feel nausea for the first 5 min, but then you'll be ok. BUY MOSQUITO REPELLANT FOR THE KIDS.

OH YAH...i almost forgot...my brother and i are both fluent in thai, and we decided to go backpacking in the south. we can get by without it, but just for shits and giggles, we wanted to see how accurate the lonely planet was regarding southern thailand....it was dead on. we couldnt find better deals anywhere..so buy the lonely planet thailand edition.
