Recommendations for Peru Travel Companies/Tour Operators

Hi

I'm planning a trip to Peru next year to celebrate a BIG birthday (I won't say which one and it's rude to ask ha ha!) and would appreciate any advice/recommendations for tour operators that specialise in travel to this region please.  My main criteria is trekking Machu Picchu (as opposed to taking the train) and I'm looking at mid-price range, rather than the luxury end of the market.  The only company I've researched so far is Intrepid Travel which offers the following itinerary:

I'd welcome people's views on this and how this compares to other travel operators offering similar packages - do you have any recommendations based on your own experiences please?

Thanks

I went to Peru with Explore Worldwide and have also used Exodus for trips. Both very good.

I went to Peru with GAP (2005), they changed their name to GAdventures

Our trip included Inca trail (or Lares trail if you booked too late) but we had to turn back after one day Inca trail, I'm still planning to try again. I wrote a blog on the trip if you're interested
Just keep in mind: book the Inca trail early, they only allow a certain number of hikers per day so booking too late means no permit (half our group had to do the Lares trail instead because the Inca trail was fully booked)

Thanks for your input and recommendations, guys - certainly some 'food for thought' there and I will have fun researching this trip with the wealth of information available!

Re: Recommendations for Peru Travel Companies/Tour Operators

I went through Peruvian Soul and had a good experience. I was met at each airport, hotels arranged, tours arranged. A few days in Lima, a few days in Cuzco, then the Inca Trail hike and train back to Poroy and taxi to Cuzco. They took care of everything. I'd recommend them. http://www.peruviansoul.com
