Active volcano lava sightings..

One of my items is to  see active lava flow, anywhere, also need to be visitor friendly. I live in  South Florida and would not mind the travel within limits. Do you know which sites are active, right now ?

Thanks in advance

Re: Active volcano lava sightings..

I’ve never been, but I think Etna is active at the moment- https://www.theguardian.com/travel/2017 … cily-italy - with the added bonus of being fairly accessible and having access to some great food whilst you’re there.

I’ve never seen lava, though- i’ve seen active sulphur plumes in mount Ijen, Indonesia and volcanic springs and new land  in Iceland but lava would be amazing.

I've been to Masaya volcano in Nicaragua this is an active volcano, the Santiago crater is the only crater in the world that can be reached by car.

Re: Active volcano lava sightings..

I was in Guatemala last month.  Volcan de Fuego is very active.  You cannot climb that mountain directly due to security and safety, but you can hike the adjacent mountains and watch the eruptions.  It is a little west of the city of Antigua.

Re: Active volcano lava sightings..

Perhaps this may be of assistance.  I am not sure where you are based so I don't know which are most accessible to you but the West coast of South America and the area between Asia and Australia seem to be favourite at the moment.

Hope this assists,

Re: Active volcano lava sightings..

The Big Island of Hawaii has an active volcano in a National Park.  You can see the lava from a helicopter or from a ship off the coast or from a viewing point on land.  https://www.lovebigisland.com/big-island-lava-viewing/

This is a "shield volcano", which means it is a gently sloping mountain produced from a large number of generally very fluid lava flows.  It isn't the kind of shooting up in the air volcano

Re: Active volcano lava sightings..

Belinda mentioned Nicaragua and I mentioned Guatemala since I thought these were in relative proximity to Florida.

However if you're entertaining going further to SE Asia or Hawaii, you may possibly want to research Piton de la Fournaise on the island of Reunion.  I was there ~5 months ago.  It is also an active volcano, and during times of eruptions, many locals will hike out to watch.

Re: Active volcano lava sightings..

The classic is certainly Stromboli - permanently active and easy to access for tourists. Joining a tour with a knowledgeable local guide is nevertheless a must even there.
