We do not know if some of the options are feasible and would like your help and feedback.
Questions:
- How does the itinerary look? Is it doable or any suggested activity changes?
- Do the activities need to be booked before hand or can we decide on the day?
- Do you have any suggestions for car rental companies?
- Should we drive a car or camper?
- If by car, do you have any recommended accommodation to stay?
- Is parking an issue?
- We decided to fly on the 25th since everything interesting in Christchurch would be closed and at least we get to see Wai-o-tapu on Christmas
- I weigh 140kg and some activities are limited by weight. (Skydiving, Bungee, Rafting, Glow Worm caves, etc). Is there anything adventurous that I can still do? (I will try to lose weight till then but losing 40kg in 2 months for skydiving isn’t realistic)
- Any other pointers that might improve our stay?

Thanks a lot to all!

Re: December 2017 Honeymoon in New Zealand

Reading your itinerary seems like you have arranged pretty good. I explore NZ for one month from South to North crossing the ferry in Picton

First reminder: you visiting NZ during school holidays- everything must booked in advance such as accommodations, same in Australia.

Renting a camper might be an option, you don't need to book a hotel. Oh they do drive on left side of the road. It was for us adjusting

20/12 Milford Sound
Drive Te Anau to Milford Sound - 118km - 1hr.45min
Milford Sound Scenic / Nature Cruise
Drive Milford Sound to Te Anau - 118km - 1hr.45min
Optional:Te Anau Glowworm tour (no weight limit)
Stay Overnight in Te Anau

- Driving from Te Anau to Milford Sound can take sometimes, it can be foggy in the morning,  you'll driving to a narrow road and are surrounded by mountains, steep rocky walls, forests, hundreds of waterfalls and lakes, and you maybe do some stops.

December is busy, you maybe reserve your ticket for cruise in advance. Highly recommended to do the Glow worm tour in Te Anau.

24/12 Christchurch
Kaikoura (whale watching)
Duration 3.5hr - departs at 7.15, 10, 10.30, last one at 3.30
Other Options:
Waiatoto
Options to be decided:
Gondola & Luge
Antartic Centre
Botanical garden (gondolier, Mona Vale)
Akaroa (swim with dolphins, 81Km 1.30hr)
Stay Overnight in Christchurch

Whale watching in Kaikoura can be disappointing we have seen the whale on the last hour. So is a matter of luck. Booking in advance also recommended

28/12 Rotorua to Auckland
Drive Rotorua to Auckland - 404Km - 5.15Hr - Must depart early morning to do 8.30 visit of waitomo caves
Optional: Waitomo Caves Glowworm tours (140Km, 2hr) (Max Weight 127kg)
Matamata - Hobbiton (103Km, 1.22Hr)
Stay Overnight in Auckland

You see glow worm tour in Te Anau, so skip Waitomo Caves Glow worm......go to Matamata instead, this must also book in advance

29/12 Auckland - Open to change
Skytower
Wanderholm regional park
Harbour bridge
Orewa beach
Stay Overnight in Auckland

Don't change the plan to sky tower. You got to see it on top and have dinner inside. See Auckland by night. The buffet style is worth a price

Re: December 2017 Honeymoon in New Zealand

- Should we drive a car or camper?

Since you are travelling in peak season, I think you better drive a camper, you have the bed inside https://www.jucy.co.nz/our-vehicles/

There are plenty of camp grounds around  https://www.newzealand.com/int/holiday-parks/

If you prefer car book your accommodation in advance, look for hotel with parking.

Bungee jumping and sky diving are very popular in Queesnstown, I've done it for the first time in my life and it was awesome.

It does not necessarily to participate in all adevnturous acitivities if its not allowing you. You still can enjoyed you holiday in NZ.  I have been to many places in the world and NZ is one of my favourite country, people is so warm and friendly
