Two month in Costa Rica/Panama

I want to go to Panama/Costa Rica in the beginning of January and stay there for two months working and enjoying the place. I'm more inclined to go to Panama because it is cheaper and has better roads, but I would like to hear your opinion.

What should I prepare in advance?
What are the best jobs I should try to find? (I heard bartending or working in hostels is the better option)
How do I get a cheap accommodation?

(I'm not sure if this is important for the answer but I know how to speak Portuguese, Spanish, French and English)

Check out helpx.net. It's a great tool to volunteer while normally receiving accommodation and food in return. I've had a few friends who have done it through Central America. I used it across Europe.

First of all look for the affordable transportation with which you can commute in Costa Rica with ease and secured manner.
