Munich is a beautiful city. I can only agree with the previous review.
Dachau is definitely worth a visit, it really gives you the creeps, makes you think and wonder about the species 'homo sapiens'. I want to add the Deutsche Museum to the list of things to do. If you are interested in science and technology at all you should take a look here. It is a huge museum, if you want, you can easily spend a whole day here. http://www.deutsches-museum.de/en/ If you want to sample some seriously traditional Bavarian atmosphere head for the Weisses Brauhaus at Tal 7 (close to the Marienplatz). Here you get delicious beer and real traditional Bavarian food. Their kitchen has won a number of awards, which they deserve in my opinion. This is probably one of the most authentic Bavarian places in the city centre. Many other Brauhaeuser tend to be geared towards mass-tourism and the food is sometimes, well, not so great. The Ratskeller, in the basement of the city hall, has a nice interior and is worth a visit. Though the prices here are a little exaggerated. Another nice down-to-Bavarian-earth place is the Augustiner Bierhalle at the Kaufinger Strasse. When the weather is fine go to the Englischer Garten for a stroll through a beautiful park and a refreshing break at the Chinesischer Turm (or, if you are a good walker, at the Aumeister). Watch people lounging on the grass, playing cricket or other sports and listen to the musicians. |
