food and drink for mind and soul Travel Reviews

Munich is a beautiful city. I can only agree with the previous review.

Dachau is definitely worth a visit, it really gives you the creeps, makes you think and wonder about the species 'homo sapiens'.

I want to add the Deutsche Museum to the list of things to do. If you are interested in science and technology at all you should take a look here. It is a huge museum, if you want, you can easily spend a whole day here.

If you want to sample some seriously traditional Bavarian atmosphere head for the Weisses Brauhaus at Tal 7 (close to the Marienplatz). Here you get delicious beer and real traditional Bavarian food. Their kitchen has won a number of awards, which they deserve in my opinion.
This is probably one of the most authentic Bavarian places in the city centre. Many other Brauhaeuser tend to be geared towards mass-tourism and the food is sometimes, well, not so great.
The Ratskeller, in the basement of the city hall, has a nice interior and is worth a visit. Though the prices here are a little exaggerated.
Another nice down-to-Bavarian-earth place is the Augustiner Bierhalle at the Kaufinger Strasse.

When the weather is fine go to the Englischer Garten for a stroll through a beautiful park and a refreshing break at the Chinesischer Turm (or, if you are a good walker, at the Aumeister).
Watch people lounging on the grass, playing cricket or other sports and listen to the musicians.

code173 says: If nothing else, head to the city center. There are many things to see, do and shop for. Like most of the cities in Germany the city center is where most of the life is at and the majority of the resturants, so there will always be something to do. A really nice cathedral is located in the center an...
jteddyb says: The Neue Pinakothek is one of three art galleries ("Pinakotheken" in German) in Munich owned by the Bavarian state government. While the Neue Pinakothek specializes in 19th-century art, its sister museums, the Alte Pinakothek and Pinakothek der Moderne, encompass the earlier and later centuries resp...
