The best city ever! :]
I love it so much cuz you can see a bunch of different stuff her. No matter what type of human you are, there is always something you can do. Mainz has about 200.000 habitants so it's not really big. Anyway, we "Meenzer" know how to party and to chill out :] table of contents: chill out tips party tips sightseeing __________________ If you wanna chill out!: - beaches at the Rhine river: here you can go and hang out with friends. Every beach bar sells drinks (try Beck's Green Lemon :] it's delicious hehe) and sometimes also snacks such as French fries, German bratwurst, Brezeln (pretzels) etc. homepages of the beaches: - "Mainzer Rheinstrand" (Theodor-Heuss-Brücke) www.rheinstrand-mainz.de - "Zero Beach" (Theodor-Heuss-Brücke) www.zero-mainz.de other: - watersport (wakeboard, waterskiing, jetskiing, events) www.wakeboarden-mainz.de - "Zollhafen" - a beergarden where you can enjoy the beautiful sunsets ;) www.hafengarten.de for swim fans: - "Taubertsbergbad" - indoor, outdoor, adventure pool. As for the indoor pool I like that the lanes are all seperated which means that you can swim without being annoyed by kids who swim across the pool and get ito your lane. Another good thing about this pool is that the diving boards have a seperate basin so no waves are bothering while swimming. As for the outdoor pool I think it's not as good as lying at the Rhine beaches. If you want to swim laps rather go to the indoor pool cuz in the outdoor pool you wont be realy able to swim - too many people! My favorite is the adventure spa. You get your ticket (which is pretty expensive! But it's worth it!) They have different whirlpools, also with different temperatures. There are also two slides that are both totally fun :] ehm.. I also like that you can swim outside where they have more massage nozzles. Only negative fact: the entrance is expensive. The homepage is: www.taubertsbergbad.de for shopping fans: Mainz has a bunch of little cute stores. My favorite are H&M, Esprit and Xara which are all close together. I love wandering through the town to watch people and catch different languages. Im proud of the multicultural touch that Mainz has! If you like ice-cream visit the Römerpassage which is near C&A. Eis Florenz has the best ice-cream in whole Mainz! And when you're already there visit the ancient Roman temple which is under the Römerpassage. The entrance is at the end of the passage and for free. for movie fans: A really cool thing is the open air cinema in Mainz-Kastell. Walking over the Theodor-Heuss Bridge and enjoying the view to Mainz gives the evening the special touch that will make eveything even nicer. I was there once with my sis to watch "L'auberge espanole". I walked back barefoot cuz my feet hurt from my shoes. Im glad Mainz is a clean town cuz I first was afraid of hurting myself on splinter of glass. Luckily I didnt ;) www.openairkino-reduit.de And for those who prefer an "indoor" movies we have the Cinestar. Why not enjoying a nice movie and afterwards going to the Star Club which is right next to it! (Between the movies and the station) www.cinestar.de if you wanna party!: - 50 Grad: Amazing club! Simply cool and stylish! I went there only once but I will definately go there more often now! The entrance is 3,50€ on wendesdays, other days 6€. But heck, it is TOTALLY worth it!!!!!!! The club was growded when I went there and people are in great mood. Everybody is dancing and drinking! I even danced with my art teacher who I met there :D You should check out the homepage before you go to see what kind of music they are playing on the day you wanna go. The homepage is: www.50grad.de (Im definately gonna go to other clubs soon and report about em!) cocktailbars in Mainz: - Extrablatt am Schillerplatz - a nice cocktail bar. Prices are alright. I just don't really like the seats. Not as comfortable as you might think. http://www.cafe-extrablatt.com/cms/front_content.php?idcat=790&standort_id=44 - Andaman - my favorite cocktail bar! The ambience is pretty cool - Asian style. You can either sit at the bar or on tables. Both is cool! The cocktails are the best ever - I love Tequila sunrise :D others: - If you come to Mainz in February then check if carnival time has started! Carnival in Mainz is fabulous! Everybody is in a great mood and everybody is drunken and dressed goofy! - pretty much everybody :] On Monday before Lent we have a huge parade here with decorated vehicles and bands and other stuff. It is cool to experience it but hey, you gotta be drunk to have fun! lol ... else you'd just be pissed off by all the drunken ppl :] - The "Johannisfest" is another cool event in Mainz! It normally takes place in June or July when it's nice warm outside. It's just like a huge huge huuuuuuuuuuge fair with a bunch of booths selling food [ohh try the mushroom pan! It is deliciousssss!!!!], funny clothes, jewelry, drinks [we Germans looove to be drunk!!!] and other stuff. Of course we also have a Ferris wheel and other funny stuff. Johannisfest reminds me of the time when I went there with a couple of friends. We walked around, talked, laughed, drank a lot and in the end we were sitting at the Rhine river watching the sunrise. It was wonderful! We didnt sleep at all that night :D - "Mainzer Bierbörse" - meet a bunch of people and try all 400 kinds of beer lol ... The Bierbörse is a fun event which takes place near the Rhine river. A MUST for every beer lover! www.bierboerse.com. If you wanna do sightseeing: - the "Gutenberg Museum" shows how the letterpress worked in the past. Near the museum there's a shop where you can print yourself like in the old times! As far as I know it's for free. They just ask you to donate a little amount of money for keeping the store up. - Mainzer Dom - the famous cathedral! Started 998 n finished in 1036. Partly destroyed during World War II, now landmark of Mainz ;) http://www.bistummainz.de/bistum/bistum/domkapitel/domMz/index.html Part of the Mainz -- my home town :] travel blog |

early September 19th i flew from London to Cologne/Bonn Airport (an incredible airport by the way) where i then caught a train to Koln main station and then another train to Mainz near Frankfurt. After i kept missing the trains and getting a whole lotta confuzzled i finally found an english speaking person!! she was from Liverpool and travelling alone to Frankfurt so i got on the train with her and we talked about English stuff before i fell asleep as i had a HUGE migraine! I got off at Mainz Hauptbahnhof and met my aunt there which was an emotional welcoming. I spent the next 6 days partying, sight seeing and also teaching english to children with my aunt (shes an english teacher). I had such an amazing time! Im going back for 5 days for new year!
