The real medieval times Mar 28, 2009
Out of all the places I have been to in the Czech Republic, I would definitely say Český Krumlov is my new found favorite. As you walk through this town, you may remember it from the movie "The Illusionist" or "Hostel". This town hosts the beautiful Český Krumlov Castle, which is literally built into the rock wall. The stone from the castle and the natural rock blend beautifully and as if they were naturally made for each other. As you walk down the steep slope into town, be sure to check out the bear moat. I still haven't seen any bears (2 times so far) but my tour guide promised me they exist. Surrreeee. Circling the town and ending up on the southern end, you'll find yourself at the Church of St. Vitus. As you probably know, St. Vitus was the patron saint of Czechoslovakia, so anything with his name in it is gonna be good. As you pull the ancient and heavy doors open, you'll notice this church's magnificence. Sure it may not be the St. Vitus cathedral in Prague, but its also not flooded with other tourists. Make sure you take note of the two organs overhead. One was the original organ that was brought with the church and the other is a newer "baroque" style organ. Both are still played. Shopping in the Krumlov is a little more expensive than it would be in Brno. I still think its cheaper than Prague however. Once we were all outta money and energy from shopping, we ended the day by drinking a bottle of wine at one of the cafes situated right on the Vltava river. Ahhhh yea this is the life.

Yea, as a matter of fact I did! Did you go through Dr. Sovik as well? I've been twice so far, but still wouldn't mind going again. Too many places in the world though and too little time and money, ya know? Sorry for the late reply, school is kikin my a$$ right now.

Did you go with the University of North Texas? I studied abroad here and all of the places and reviews sound the same. Just curious!
