Quaint shops & local dining in Plano, TX Apr 20, 2011
Downtown Plano is a wonderful collection of shops and restaurants just east of Highway 75 north of Dallas. Jewelry, collectibles, antiques, and boutiques – it’s a great way to spend an afternoon. Everything is concentrated in a compact block or two, making it an easy walk. I particularly enjoy Nature’s Finest Art (www.naturesfinestart.net) for unique jewelry, Nooks & Krannies for their great selection of Vera Bradley and tasty cafe, and Holman Pottery (www.holmanpottery.com).

There are no chain restaurants here – just a nice collection of local places like Kelly’s Eastside (www.kellyseastside.com), Urban Crust (www.urbancrust.com), The Fillmore Pub, and Jorg’s Café Vienna (www.jorgscafevienna.com). If restaurants aren’t your thing, you can pick up a few items from the Farmer’s Market and have a picnic in Haggard Park – home to the occasional free concert in the summer.

Parking is free and readily available on the street and in several city-operated lots and garages. You can even take public transportation – downtown Plano is a stop on the DART Red Line (www.dart.org).
