it's not built yet.
it is incredibly hot yet no sandals or shorts are allowed in most establishments.
the women are treated like cattle.
it has some of the most hollow minded people in the world living there.
there is no grass or parks.
it has no soul.
lacks historical interest.
the cab drivers are absolutely useless, as are the roads they travel on.
everything is fake, like a half built disneyland, but without the rides.

don't believe the hype- you have been warned.

1. It's not COMPLETELY built yet. It's built more than many major cities in the US and there are plenty of things to do and have fun.
2. Sandals and shorts are allowed in MOST establishments. The only ones that dont allow that are because they are fancier and have a dress code (casual to business casual usually).
3. The women in Dubai are not treated like cattle. Hell, compared to it's neighboring emirates the women there couldn't be any happier. Non-emirate women wear whatever they want, including thong bikinis.
4. About hollow minded people: hollow in the sense that money buys everything, OK. But they know what it means to enjoy life and not work their asses off for no reason. The lifestyle there is so much more relaxed and worry-free. Plus they're culturally more open to other races and cultures than most places in the US.
5. Dubai is filled with grass and parks. That's one of the most amazing things about the region. It's a oasis in the desert.
6. It has no soul. By no soul do you mean a small black population? That's true. But that's about all you can mean by that comment.
7. Lacks historical interest, OK, maybe. It is a new city. 15 years ago it was mostly desert. There is good history if you know what to look for though. If you can't find history in that part of the world, I don't know what's wrong with you.
8. The cab drivers all speak english, and don't smell like our American cabbies. They get the job done.
9. The roads are not useless, they just follow a more european design (with the exits and such). I kind of liked driving there. Plus there are no cops on the road! Just Camera-radars, but you can see them from far away!
10. Fake, I can see where youre coming from. Very flashy and money-flaunting designs. But it makes you feel like youre on a diferent planet, or at least in the future. Could this be the future?

After going to the Wafi Center Mall yesterday morning, I came back to the hostel and got picked up to go on my desert safari. Woohoo! I've never been in a proper desert with the sand dunes and the like, so I was really looking… Sandboarding in the desert.
