If there is something that you would NOT expect in a city like Surabaya, then it must be a European medieval castle. And yet, there is one... My daughter and her friend invited me there for a coffee, after we had had dinner somewhere else.

This place is called "de Kasteel" which is actually the Dutch word for "castle". Very interesting place, it is a building that imitates a medieval European castle or royal palace, but then with many light effects and all sorts of trendy features.

The themes are sort of a mish mash from different periods in the history, but of course it is not the pretention to mimick a real historic place.

Very trendy with bars, dining areas, all decorated in medieval royal style and outside are even a couple of gypsy caravans that groups can rent for their private parties.

You won't find much of Indonesian cuisine here (even though they have some), but you should think more of things like collossal burgers, pasta, grilled seafood and a range of desserts and pastries. Contemporary dishes, with attention for the presentation.

We sat at the outside dining area. Most of the people that we saw there were young fashionable trendy people, the crowd that can afford.

LOcation: The area is called Citraland and there are lots of restaurants and bars etc.

For this unusual restaurant/café/lounge you can have a look on their website. It is in Bahasa, but the labels and buttons are in English so that you can navigate through the pictures if you like.
