the greatest fun in ages. our spanish guide captured it exactly; "hope you have listened to my instructions carefully because you will now be entering THE LIFE OF BRIAN!" the day trip was exactly as described elsewhere but i felt it is neccessary to give a different perspective. the morrocans have a 1000 + year tradition of bartering. personally i also hate that but it is their culture and was prepared as did the guides [ morrocan and spanish both of whom were excellent in their care of us] prepare us. useful for the unitiated. they even had 3 other helpers who ran backwards and forwards between shops for those who wished to purchase but couldn't stand the pace in the souk! the colours and designs of the crafts available, handed down many generations, are wonderful. we love it. the morroccans also love it if you really appreciate thier art.it is not for the faint hearted but if you are steely minded and didn't wish to participate you will be left alone in the tourist carpet and spice shops. hence the benefit of the organised tour for europeans to such a place. you will be pestered beyond belief otherwise. we can personaly vouch for that after a holiday unescorted in marrakesh. we did buy some beautiful lights there though [ my husband does the bartering!] a richly colourful country. worthy of many a visit.
