Most Memorable Travel Experience
trek to Everest---twice---tears in my eyes when i realised my dream
I got the travel bug when i was 19 years old when i traveled on the train throughout Europe with an Interail Pass. In '73 i hitch-hiked around Europe for 8 months, getting as far as Damascus, arriving there at lunchtime on 6th October , almost exactly at the time the Middle East war began. In '74 i returned for 6 more months hitch-hiking around Europe again. Then i settled down for 3 years before leaving in April '77, with the intention of heading overland to Australia, but i was picked up by an American and ended up becoming the Logistics Manager for an American communication company in Jordan. I quit the day John Lennon died in December '81 and headed off for a 6 month trip to S America visiting all the major countries except for Uruguay. Highlights were the carnival in Rio, Iguazu Falls, trekking to Machu Picchu, spending a week on the Amazon river, enjoying my birthday on Lake Titicaca with the Uros Indians. At the end of the trip i went to live in Baguio, Philippines for 18 months.I left the Philippines and flew to Vancouver, spending about 3 months in BC before crossing to Washington DC on the Greyhound Bus. A great deal back then---$99 to male a one month trip, breaking the journey wherever i wanted.Headed back to UK for a couple of months before being offered a job in the DC area. Stayed in the USA for two years and returned to London for a couple of years where i had a successful business. Late 80's to '91 was based in Thailand and was involved in exporting clothes to UK. Itchy feet again, so i backpacked around Asia and Australia from early '92 to early '94. Returned to UK, decided this was not for me so i went to Philippines and have been here ever since. We often take trips out of the country and last year we had two week trips to Australia, Taiwan, Myanmar and Vietnam. In 2015 i took a trip to London, Iceland, Dublin and Edinburgh. This year we will be off to Cambodia in February, hopefully Sri Lanka in May and Japan in September.
