There is a currency exchange in Puerto Aventuras. If you have the chance change your money in Playa del Carmen, you'll get a better rate. And at this exchange booth you also have to look at the money you get. Never accept money where a corner is missing. The money is NOT VALID anymore. We didn't know that and as we noticed we couldn't go to a bank anymore to change it because only banks will change incomplete bills.
It is worth to change some money as it is cheaper to pay in Pesos. Generally, 1 USDollar is 10 Pesos but in reality it is about 11 Pesos worth.
