Coronation Bridge Jul 02, 2017
The majestic Coronation bridge, built over the river Teesta was built to celebrate the Coronation of King George 6 and Queen Elizabeth.

We visited it when we were travelling from Kalimpong to Siliguri on our road trip. The bridge is attractive to look at, and is one of the few examples left of a spandrel arch bridge in our country, and so had heritage value.

We were surprised our Driver had no idea that this Bridge had some history behind its building!

Built by the British that connects Darjeeling to Jalpaiguri is a treat to watch in the monsoons when the Teesta river flows with all its might

Beautiful bridge. It is great that the name has remained unchanged after 1947!
