Wow! A desginer Hotel indeed! Apr 11, 2013
This hotel is not about where it is located, its not about what it offers, its not about its surrounding = its all about design ! . Its a museum of Modern Art! It has won so many awards for design and innovation, and its a place you have to be to experience a bit of uniqueness. Placed well outside the heart of Amsterdam but easily accessible by Trams. The rain fall shower in the middle of the room to the designer hall ways to glamorous bar , this hotel is all about style. The price well, i guess is around what you would expect for a decent hotel in Amsterdam and I would recommend it for a one night stay, be sure you spend enough time inside to hotel to enjoy what you have paid for.

The cool self chek-in feature is the first thing to catch your eye ( tho there are operators to help you lol!). The hotel has a great ambiance within and it boasts it self as a travelers choice. Every door has its own unique quote tho some dont really make sense :-) The exterior of the hotel is quite deceptive and you may not get a feel of what is inside, but hey never judge a book by its cover

Pictures speak more than words for this hotel. Its worth staying one night if you want to live in a unique world for a change :-)

Trendy, futuristic hotel with a great staff and customer service! May 11, 2013
Me and a friend booked ourselves into the CitizenM at the last minute, after an disappointing experience at a different hostel in Amsterdam.

The CitizenM is clearly a well maintained and clean hotel, with a very inviting, comfortable, and spacious lobby/lounging/dining area...

The moment we set foot inside the front door, we could see that they also maintain a very high standard of customer service, and throughout the stay, I was very pleased with the service of all the staff I encountered.

After checking in and being shown our room, my friend and I were pretty dumbfounded, as the room certainly wasn't what we had expected.

Don't get me wrong, the room was very comfortable, the beds were out of this world. It was the toilet/shower facilities that weren't what we expected...

They were in the form of completely see through space pods in between the sleeping area and the entrance, with a very thin curtain that could be pulled across to provide a negligible amount of privacy! Very negligible! LOL!

What I mean to say is, it appeared to us that the rooms are designed for a very romantic couple's escape, as otherwise it may be a little bit uncomfortable to do one's business with your room mate in the room! Save for this little surprise, the rooms were very nice indeed.

The hotel is located in a nice quiet neighborhood, although it is a considerable distance from the city centre. However, it was not at all difficult to get to and from the hotel quickly and easily, thanks to the efficient tram system in Amsterdam, and there being a stop very close to the hotel.

All in all, the hotel and the stay there was great value for money, and I would highly recommend it for couples looking for a romantic escape outside of the party atmosphere of Amsterdam city.

Get the scientists working on the tube technology! Sep 06, 2011
Why doesn't a hotel chain like this exist in the US! This has got to be one of the most simple, yet brilliant hotel designs in the world. Anyway, enough praise, time for the actual review...

CitizenM Hotel is located near Amsterdam Zuid station. After arriving at Schipol we purchased a three euro ticket, took the train one stop and walked about two blocks to the hotel. There are signs just outside the train station so it is easy to find your way (take the North exit). The checkin area had a number of kiosks and you could look up your reservation by last name or confirmation number. There were about three staff in the lobby who were extremely helpful and welcoming. The lobby has some iMacs, big screen tv's, a bar and pre-packaged food available for purchase. The lobby was lacking the frills of a classic hotel, but I actually prefer a functional space that has the amenities I desire. The room itself was a large studio with two tubes in the middle of the room. Tubes?! Yes, tubes. One tube was for the shower and the other was the toilet. Both had ambient lighting that you could control from a remote control. In fact, the entire room was connected to the remote. I wanna watch TV, boom remote. I wanna change the shower light from Orange to Purple, boom remote. Let's close the blinds and lower the shade, remote. Oh wait, I need an alarm... remote! Wifi was free (so unusual in Europe) and there are about 40 channels on the TV. If you're bringing your family, don't forget to block the free porn that is available 24/7. The bed was large and comfortable and the room was pretty much spotless. One thing of note, the location of the hotel might seem a bit removed from the city center. It's not, Tram #5 stops right outside the hotel and you can get downtown in less than 15 minutes. I will definitely be staying here again on my return to Amsterdam. In the meantime I'm going to get our US scientists working on the tube technology!

Very Different and Modern affordable Hotel Jul 14, 2011
If you like modern, different, young feeling, comfortable hotel in Amsterdam. Pick this one.

Location wise, it is a bit out of the city, but the tram to the city is right in front of the hotel and it takes only 1-15 miuntes to be in the city by tram No. 5. It is hard to find, and you have to walk from the nearest train station for a bit. But, by taxi it will not be difficult.

When you arrive, the reception looks like a library with set of computers, a different experience from the usual line up registration. You have do self registration, by using the touch screen and machine that will accept your credit card payment (no cash) and make your own key. The hotel staff will assist you.

The Lobby is several different living rooms with tv for you to enjoy with a homey feelings. All the furnitures used are quiet artistic, incluing the lamps and wall decor. The signage also very artistic but futuristic using funny phrases.

The Bar/breakfast area - looks more like a mini market, where you grap thinks from the cooler and display and bring them to the cashier. Breakfast are not included and at the time I was there its only 9plus Euro.

No concierge for you, you go up to the room and voila the interior welcome you with a very nice feeling.

You will be welcomed by Malik, a stuffed doll on the bed. The shower and toilette are built see through glass capsules. Both are lighted with changing soft color lights that change the mood of the room. Unless you close the door, the shower wont work - which i learnt it the hard way because I didnt read the instruction. The sink is located outside these ccapsules and then the bed is in the far sight agains the big window covering the whole width of the room. The window has an electric blinds and shades. A flat screen TV is set above the bed. All electrical things in the room are controled by one remote.

By designing the toilete and shower into a capsule, only seperated by a curtain, it reduce the space of building a real bath room with doors and walls. However, it does not allow extra space of the occupant, because the space left is still minimum. It will be very crowded to put two big suit cases.

The wifi works well and the surrounding is pretty quiet so we can sleep comfortably.

The place is close to WORLD TRADE CENTER, but if you walk down about 5 minutes - you can find restaurants and small shops. There are rivers to watch, but that is about it - the real lively action has to be in the city.

I really like this hotel and would come back again!

Citizen Mobile May 30, 2009
We loved Citizen M’s newest location in Amsterdam. It is a bit outside of downtown, but near the Museumplein and right next door to the Amsterdam Zuid train station, so a convenient location (only one stop and ten minutes by train from Schiphol). The rooms are very small with separate pods serving as the bathroom (what we called the ‘potty-poddy’) and shower. The XL king bed and awesome pillows were incredibly comfortable and there is a touch pad that controls the room – you can choose music and lighting to suit your mood quite easily.

At the end of the day all you really do is sleep in your hotel, so they’ve economized and provided what you really need for an incredible price, so don't expect square footage. We paid significantly less to enjoy this place! The secret ingredient is the spacious lobbies and bar/food service available round the clock down stairs. The design is hip and comfortable and we loved the personnel, primarily college age folks from all around Europe. It was easy to strike up a conversation with any of the staff, and talking with a guy from Greece was enlightening: he had sought a job here to distance himself from political unrest back home.

There is also a nearby Metro stop, so you are only a couple minutes from Centraal Station. We walked back and forth to Centraal several times (after all Citizen M stands for “Citizen Mobile”) and I’d guess it is about four kilometers away, but a pretty walk! Only caution is that the e-mailed directions to reach the hotel from the train station referenced a sign outside the train station which does not exist --- you need to walk past the WTC from the station, walk under the overpass and across the small park. Turn right on the street just past the small park and you will see it on the corner. Welcome Citizen Mobile!

An experience in itself! Dec 10, 2009
Not everyones cup of tea but after the dull & stuffy hotel i stayed in just before for my business meetings, had so much fun at this place! The rooms are tiny but the beds are huge and comfortable, the tv is huge (with free movies on demand), the mood lighting and theme settings not as tacky as you might think and the shower... well the shower in the middle of the room complete with its own mood lighting settings and well... look at the pics just entertaining!! I am sure the showers in the starship enterprise are like this, beam me up!!!

I loved that there was a 24 hour bar where you can serve yourself (included sushi and sake:-) A very large, comfortable lounge area and decent wifi everywhere. You even check yourself in and out! 2 minute walk to tram stop for getting into the city centre and 5 minute walk to train station for getting to the airport! I would definitely go back...
Shower!!!!!
