Average priced "Hostels" in Zurich, Switzerland
If there's one thing you can expect from Switzerland, it's quality! They excel at just about everything, this hostel included. I spent 2 nights here and I would recommend it. Pros: * Good location. About 15 minutes by S-bahn from the central terminus so it's not really in the "old town"/city centre, but easily accessible given trains run from the wee hours of the morning to late at night. *…

Cheap "Sights & Attractions" in Moab, Utah, USA
For Fall Break 2017, I decided to take off a few states from my list of 50 States of the United States. This also gave me the opportunity to tick off 3 National Parks from the 59 recognized Parks in the United States. Driving from Arizona - Utah - Idaho - Montana - Washington - Oregon - California and back to Arizona. Arches National Park is one of 59 recognized Federal Parks in the United Sta…

Free! "Sights & Attractions" in East Tilbury, England, UK
East Tilbury’s only thoroughfare continues downhill, almost to the north bank of the Thames. It ends at the car park for visitors to the Coalhouse Fort. During the early 15th century following an infiltration of the Thames by the French, King Henry IV allowed the inhabitants of East Tilbury, at that time classed as a ‘town’, to build defensive ramparts. In 1540, King Henry VIII ordered that …

Expensive "Sights & Attractions" in Friday Harbor, Washington, USA
There are many whale-watching companies operating out of Friday Harbor and I spent some time online deciding which to book with. In the end I chose Spirit of Orca as it seemed to get consistently good reviews across several platforms (not just Trip Advisor, which I don’t always trust) and was a small boat, which was a priority for us. The bigger boats cost less but you are jostling for views wit…

Very cheap "Hotels & Accommodations" in Osaka, Japan
Well, as you can see by my ratings we were extremely disappointed with our choice of hotels. Hotel Mikado appeared to have good reviews but i cannot understand why. When we checked in the receptionist was very friendly and informed us how to get to Namba Station. We took a free cup of tea in the guests kitchen which was opposite the reception and that is when the good time ended. Our room was on t…

Average priced "Sights & Attractions" in Dresden, Germany
About 12 km upstream from Dresden's old town is the idyllic district Pillnitz at the foot of wooded hillsides and vineyards. The lovely village, beautiful churches and other sights aside, the picturesque Baroque Palace Pillnitz with its gorgeous garden is the main attraction. The complex as you see it now dates from the early 18th century with additions and reconstructions mostly from the early 19…

Average priced "Restaurants, Cafes & Food" in Broadstairs, England, UK
I am sure all the readers here have heard of the expression "like a kid in a sweetshop" and in Broadstairs, amongst the many other wonderful things you can do, you can indulge yourself in just this very pastime. Forget all the Haribo Starmix and whatever else are positioned cleverly at the supermarket checkout so the children scream and morally blackmail you to buy them some, the wonderful Swee…

Average priced "Restaurants, Cafes & Food" in Liverpool, England, UK
On my second day in Liverpool in September 2016 I met a travel friend from Manchester for dinner and drinks. He suggested to meet at the Philharmonic Dining Rooms, which was absolutely fine for me due to its location quite close to my accommodation (Aachen Hotel). The name of the place is derived from the nearby Liverpool's Philharmonic Hall. The ornate building dates back to the beginning of t…

Free! "Sights & Attractions" in London, England, UK
Pleasingly, London has no shortage of quirky, independent, second-hand book shops as a means to counterbalance all of the Waterstones branches (the premier high street book retailer in the UK) that litter its high streets. Daunt Books has got several branches dotted across London. But it is its Marylebone flagship store that comes recommended to the traveller for the rather simple reason that …
