Average priced "Sights & Attractions" in Drumnadrochit, Scotland, UK
I took a Jacobite cruise from The Loch Ness Clansman Hotel to The Urquhart Castle site. I wrote in my journal that it wasn't worth the money but that wasn't because of the castle itself. The problem with going by boat is that they only give you just barely enough time at the actual site. I felt a bit rushed. But then again, I'm probably just slow. And not just mentally. The castle can, of course, …

Free! "Sights & Attractions" in London, England, UK
I have visited Kingsland Road so many times, but never ventured east of it along Shacklewell Lane until today. This time, the bus from Newington Green, a route we had not used previously, deposited us outside the UK Turkish Islamic Trust, a mosque on Shacklewell Lane. This mosque is housed in a former synagogue, the ‘Stoke Newington Synagogue’, which despite its name is closer to Dalston th…

Average priced "Sights & Attractions" in Ukraine
I travelled from Przemysl Poland by bus to Lviv western Ukraine, for a 2 night stay. Bus fare was 25 zloty, journey took 3 hours with a delay at border. Arrived at Lviv bus station which is a little way out of town, so took a taxi to George Hotel . Driver gave me a fare before starting journey. The journey was fast dodging potholes in the road, arrived safe and paid the agreed fare. There are two…

Very cheap "Sights & Attractions" in Delft, Netherlands
Somehow there is so many good places to visit in Delft within walking range of Delft Station. This was the start of a long wonderful day for this old man, so I took a bus from Delft Station. Admission was only four euros ($5 USD) and the gardens are beautiful. Not far into the garden was the very nice Thuja tree. (I have different Thujas planted in formation at my homestead. I also have planted …

Expensive "Restaurants, Cafes & Food" in Schiedam, Netherlands
As I have written in the main part of the blog that this is hopefully attached to, I had somehow ended up in the delightful little town of Schiedam when I thought I could get a train direct to my final destination of Leiden from the ferryport but apparently not so. We were transported to the train station here but planxty had nothing to do and all day to do it and so I took off round a town I ha…

Expensive "Hotels & Accommodations" in San Luis Obispo, California, USA
San Luis Obispo lies roughly midway between Los Angeles and San Francisco on California’s rugged and majestic central coast. Growing up in California I’d driven by The Madonna Inn more times than I can count. My parents loved to grab a bite in their coffee shop or bakery and grab a delicious treat on our vacations to Los Angeles. I finally fulfilled a lifelong wish and stopped for the night th…

Free! "Sights & Attractions" in Roma , Italy
Colosseo di Roma (Coliseum of Rome) is the largest amphitheater of Roma, erected by the Emperor Vespasian during his reign (c. 69-79 AD). The area on which it was built was previously occupied by the artificial lake of the the Domus Aurea palace built by Nero after the great fire in Roma (c. 64 AD). The construction work continued with the Emperor Titus (c. 79-81), but was fully completed in 82 AD…

Expensive "Restaurants, Cafes & Food" in Jimbaran, Indonesia
Our driver takes us to this restaurant for our seafood dinner in Jimbaran. I was a bit suspicious as the place was quite empty, only has 2 tables occupied at the beach front. Whereas the next door restaurant looks much more merrier with many people and also dancing performance. But I decided to try it as I like to try a new restaurant to find out if the food is good or not. We get the fresh fis…

Cheap "Hotels & Accommodations" in Riga, Latvia
I started independent and budget travel back in 2005 and I was always mesmerised by the idea of staying in a hostel - what was it? well a nice cosy low cost place where you could meet and interact with fellow travellers. That was 2005. Since then, hostels have become so "famous" and mainstream that a lot of these establishments are becoming as commercial and cold as a hotel. I'd go as far a…
