July 24, 2008 Drove from Chicken to Fairbanks We stopped by the North Pole, Alaska. There was a giant Santa, all the light poles were painted like candy canes, and there were reindeer. It was lots of fun, and I have a feeling it would be even more fun around Christmas time. Mom and Lia got up early and went over to talk to our friends with adventure caravans. We stayed in the same place as them last night, and we planned to meet them on the 25th, at the Riverside campground. We went to...

On July 5, 2008 some friends and I dove the North Shore of Oahu. What a great place to go when the waves are not enormous. It is amazing what is below the surface when the emphasis is not on the great surfing.

My husband came home from work one day talking about this new obstacle course that had opened somewhere on the island.  He was excited to find this new place and try it out.  While I was at Ticket & Tours getting the last of my information for my Mt Fuji climbed i saw a picture of something rather interesting.  As i looked closer i realized this must be the place my husband was talking about.  I asked if there were any tours and presto!  I booked us 2 seats for th...

For the last time I moaningly woke up in my luxurious Paradise Inn & Suites Motel. A cold shower, a tooth brush and some packing later I was ready for a day of adventure and the unexpected. When I threw my suitcase into Tracy’s car the first thing I didn’t expect (nor realise) was, that I left my beloved S’Oliver jacket behind. Shite!Jenn, Tracy and me went for brunch at the Figaro Café. These guys were like professional holiday managers, constantly making plans and phone calls and...

I'm flipping out right now because Mac decided to change their mail platform while I'm here, and I can't access it from any computer in this internet center.  Also realized after a few days here that AT&T must not have an agreement in place with Mongolia, so if anyone's sending me a text, I ain't gettin' them either.  Looks like this is the best place to get me, or you can use my puttyland@yahoo.com address. OK...soooo...lots to tell, and I'll post pix tomorrow.  I have an...

Daddy (my husband Dancr) wanted to go for a walk with the family ... though I was partially interested to going shopping for some flowers (to fill the garden) ... but I put my wishes aside and went for the ride where he took pictures of Malard Ducks, Canada Geese, and the usual Seagulls ... then I snatched the camera and took a picture of the lake (to be named later) and many flowers (of course) but I really had a KEEN interest in the vaiety of bugs that were 'feasting' on the ...

There's some stuff to do in Leh itself, but not tons.  The main activity seems to be using Leh as a starting point for other trips -- trekking, jeep safaris, whitewater rafting, etc.  Whitewater rafting caught Anita's fancy -- she'd never done it before (I'd done it once and loved it), and the idea of saying we went whitewater rafting in the Himalayas was very appealing. The day had an auspicious beginning -- Tenzin, the owner of the agency that made all the arrangements -- showed ...

Rafting down the Kali Gandaki River: day three
posted by:

Today, we encountered some rapids that were small enough to swim through. There was one rapid that everyone seemed to fall out of their rafts at. For a moment, the Kali Gandaki was littered with UWC students bobbing up and down in the water. Our guides, Brent and Gary, who were in kayaks, had a run for their money as they paddled around collecting everyone and returning them to their respective rafts! When the rafting was over, we had a five hour bus journey ahead of us. We made a toilet stop ...

Several terrific things happened today! Ned arrived on an earlier flight at 5pm!  Hooray!  After dinner, we returned the 2 miles to the airport for his luggage, which was no trouble. Dinner at the fabulous campground restaurant, Chena’s at the River’s Edge, was riverfront and delicious- a definite improvement from our simple Skillet-in-a-bag type meals. Our caravan friends arrived and we practiced CB'ing with them (hadn't learned that skill before) and took Ned...

11th day, Cape Cross

After the so exciting and relaxing 2 days at Swakop, it was time to resume the trip. Next stop would be Cape Cross, better said the colony of it. Not humans, but fur seals. The smell welcomes you at the gate. Well, some little house from where you can walk to the coast. Some human made boulevard separates us from the noisy, lazy animals. Thousands! We just stayed here for an hour, but I enjoyed myself a lot. So much to see. Between these fatsy's jackals were scavaging or trying to predat...

Well, my saddest fear was realized when I ended up at Kingstown Baptist Church (KBC) Sunday morning and was alone save for three from the "Wise-guys" team. Gary and Betty Overstreet, and Don Overstreet and I sat in on the tail-ends of Sunday School and proceeded into the main service. It was actually quite an enjoyable experience, I was only a little sad to be separated from my teammates. As things went, I did play "Beautiful One" on my violin WITH the band (keyboardists, drums and bass...

After Libby and I decided we would take a day trip to DC, we went online to check the weather. On the weather site we saw a picture of the Lincoln Memorial. Libby said "I want to see him." Trinity and I had never made it to the Lincoln Memorial, so the three of us figured it was as good a goal as any for a summer day. We got to DC at about 10:30 and our first mission was to find food. I had never taken a day trip to DC before, so maybe that was why I didn't notice the lack of good food availa...

Oh dear bejeebles.... where do I start. So here I am in Singapore, terribly exhausted and I have just arrived at this hostel I found on a very late edition of a Lonely Planet book . So late the first hostel that I looked for has closed down already ages ago and so I had to walk a million miles with Jear's awfully heavy backpack on my delicate shoulders to this hostel that I do not fancy much for oh so many reasons!! First, price is twice expensive than what Lonely Planets says. Seco...
