The 14 hour bus ride from Saigon to Siem Reap was a real long one, though it wasn't that triring compared to an 8 hour bus ride here in the Philippines and I think the main contributing factor is that Cambodia really has a flat landscape; you can barely see trees or mountains and the road starting from the Viet-Cambo border is mainly a straight one--no sharp turns nor zig-zags like the one we have in our Bicol route (bituka ng manok). So if you fall asleep in the bus you can basically have a ...

I woke up about 10am and had a leisurely breakfast before heading down to the beach. I spent most of the day here just relaxing and reading my book. Nothing really notable happened all day. In the evening I took a walk away from the busier area of the beach and found a nice restaurant with a good view and had some excellent Thai food. Even though I had such a lazy day I was still able to fall asleep around 10pm.

Berkelah Waterfall, 2005: Maran Travel Photos

I recall this as a last minute trip with the decision made just few days before. Located on the way to Kuantan, nearer to Maran, the hike to the waterfall was somewhat treacherous, with very steep and slippery rocks and I fell a few times eventhough I'm a very careful person. Ouch! Hike took about 2 hours plus the fact we did it under the scorching afternoon sun, we kept wondering whether we would reach the waterfall. Campsite was just next to the fall, superbly breezy at night.

After having a bad time in Bamako i was disheartened and just wanted to get out of there.  Due to my previous problems with trying to get a visa for Mauritania i decided on something drastic. I would get to the airport, get some money wired and fly to Morocco.Things didnt look got as the flights would cost in and around 900 euro. The only other thing i could think of was getting the express train to Dakar, which would take me on a wide detour of my origanal route. After sitting around f...

I had a lazy sleep in and then got moving to New London, to the birth place of L.M.Montgomery (The writer of 'Anne of Green Gables', amongst other famous early 20th Century Novels set in PEI). A small Village at a cross roads showed a handful of perfect cottages. I felt like I had wandered unknowingly into an advert for Silvanian Family's. Expecting to be greeted by Mrs Perwinkel the Rabbit I entered the museum. Surprised to find another human in this otherwise uninhabited village, I bought a...

We all woke up at around 4AM. While Jenneth was busy preparing our sandwiches (which served as our breakfast of sorts), Foyan and I showered. Not together, of course. Geez people. Anyway, we left the hotel at 5:30 and went to the info center which was just walking distance from the hotel. Our boatman and guide was already there, and while they were busy preparing our boat, we busied ourselves cam-whoring. After 30 minutes or so, time to board the boat. The boat trip was quite smooth. We conten...

What a Great experience! I guess what I want to say most of all is thank you to Phish and Co., the state of Maine and all the wonderful folks between our I95 exit and the entrance to paradise. I could have never imagined such a fine welcome. I rolled through the towns around 8:00pm Friday and all along the way were locals out on the streets waving and honking. It was quite a special feeling. For me, it set the tone for the whole weekend. It turned out to be the one of the best weekends of my ...

Salar Uyuni

Salar Uyuni is probably the most spectacular place I have ever been to. Cruising at a hundred kilometres per hour on this huge salt pan, with absolutely no other vehicle around is a unique experience. On a 110km trip on the pan we only saw one or two vehicles! The Isla del Pescado or Fish Island, covered with enormous cacti, offers magnificient views on the pan and the surrounding mountains, including Tunupa Volcano. The best of all during these 2 days spent in the area ...

Egypt is a treasury of ancient "relicts".The 2 weeks I spent here with my friend Pavel were full of several things: unforgottable experiences, "hassle" by the merchandisers, beautifull sceneries, heat, sun and dust, nice and even annoying people. What it wasn't? Definitely not boring.
