Full of history, full of new life - Amazing Jul 08, 2009
Venice is amazing, full of so much history. You'll get so caught up in it you won't want to leave. Yes, go and see the tourist spots but make sure you also see the 'real venice'. Go off the beaten track & get lost. You'll love it. San Polo district, Dorsoduro district - amazing. If you're looking for cool handmade jewellery visit Santi Chiara in the San Polo district. Come out of the 'Church of the Frari' & head towards the Rialto market area. Santi Chiara is on the way there, a corner shop with large glass windows. Another place to highly recommend is Pizza Al Volo in Campo Santa Marguerita. Its a small pizza shop with delicious pizza. There are benches outside in the square you can sit on. I loved Venice & will go back some day again, for longer this time. Also the ice cream is sooo cheap & beautiful. E1 for a cone/cup - thats cheaper than at home here in Ireland

We stepped outside of our hostel and right next door was Pizza Al Volo, the best pizza I have ever had in my life, Formaggio Familiari (sorry if its spelled wrong). All that means is large cheese, but the mere mention of it brings back memories of a perfectly constructed masterpiece of a pizza that is cooked within two minutes… Rick Steves Says You Can't Get Lost. |

One of the best things that you can
possibly do in Venice
is getting lost. As some of you know I am not the best with directions. Walking
around Venice at
night without many street names began to be confusing from time to time. However,
we eventually found… Grand Canals and Dirty Birds |

I was very pleasantly surprised by the body of work held there, enough to say that it has been the best museum I've seen so far (the Prado is a close second, due to the fact that I find modern art to be slightly more captivating and creative than earlier periods). I bought an Alvar Aalto coin dish from the gift… Quite possibly the best day in Europe so far! |

Coventry was my best guess but on arrival at East Midlands airport I realised we were going somewhere a little more exotic than Coventry - Venice!
We had a little trouble with our flight but managed to get an extra night in Venice out of it. Once in Venice… My 18th Birthday |
