St.Sava was originally the prince Rastko Nemanjic, the most important saint in the Serbian Ortodox Church.Saint Sava is considered the founder of the independent Serbian Orthodox Church and Serbian Orthodox Christians celebrate him as patron saint of education and medicine.
Temple of St.Sava is the largest Ortodox Church currently in use. Church was built on the location where remains of St.Sava have been burned in 1595 by the Ottoman Empire's Sinan Pasha. In front of church in park you will find monument of Karadjordje. He was great political figure. He was leader of the Serbian people in their struggle for independence from the Turks.
