Hearty Meals with old-fashioned atmosphere Jan 15, 2009
A very old, very typcical Applewine restaurant. The meals are big and the menu has typcial German kitchen. You can find anything from Sauerkraut Lasagne to a Rouladen with homemade mashed potatoes to a Schnitzel with Pommes.
The fish was great and also the Porkloins with mushroom cream sauce was delicious. The steak was very large, but unfortunately a little tough. I gave the rouladen a try and they were good, but my favorite were the mashed potatoes. The interesting is the setting the restaurant is located in two houses joined by a courtyard that functions as a beergarden in the summer. my first try was on a Saturday and we were not able to get a seat. Second I reserved table for 4 , which placed us on a long bench with other couples on the same table. We were luckily sitting on the house, with the kitchen, it was cozy warm and the atmosphere was great. Across the street is the smokers house. Unfortunately we got seated there next time we came. It is also very cozy, but very, very cold. it might have had a chance to warm up, but we had some "alternative" parents sitting across from us, who decided to let their kids run in and out continously, so the ice-cold wind kept blowing in and so we ate in a hurry to get to leave. So, not really the restaurants fault and if you want a dinner in a typical "Frankfurt" style restaurant, it is a very nice place to go. Also it is located close to the Panoramabad, and therefore great to go to after a day of swimming. |
