Zoologischer Garten Leipzig Reviews
Walk one day through the continents and it's animal life Apr 26, 2009
The first to tell you about the Zoo in Leipzig:
If you have the chance to see it, go and do it. Take one day for it. And if you are with kids... they'll have a blast.
I'll go there, as often as I can. You'll discover a lt of new things. Even without concentrating on the animals.
They build different themed areas:
Continent South America
and in planing... Godwanaland
Asia is dominated by the Elefant temple, styled as a temple of Genosha with a lot of Thai influences.
You can o into the underground and watch the elephants bath from beneath, which can be very interesting (bath time is 10:15)
Then we have the Tiger Taiga with a lot of different positions to watch the Tigers. If you are lucky yu can watch them bath and not only lazing around.
Africa is dominated by the Kiwara Savannah. There are a lot of animals roaming. Giraffes, zebras, antilopes of different kinds, ostrichs and cranes, even some flamingo.
From the Kiwara-Lodge you can watch the animals and take a meal. The serve different kind of foods, mostly african styled. You can choose your own kind of mix. It's self catered.
After that you come to the Lion Savannah Makasi Simba, where our lion couple lives.
One of the main attractions for the kids are the prairie dog area. If you find a spot to look at the little animals call yourself lucky. But the small goats not far away are cute, too.
Pongoland is a big area, outdoor and indoor, for apes (Orang-Utans, Cheetahs, Gorillas and Bonobos). The building itself is quite cool and you have foot and handprints on the wall and information about the evolution of apes and humans.
Continent Australia is very interesting, becuase you walk on red ground and next to the kangaroos, without any border.
Godwanaland is the newest project and is still in construction. It will be a giant house with a lot of big trees, birds and other animals, whrer you can walk through. It will be finished 2011.
For the kids you have a pet zoo, where you can touch goats and small animals and watch pets like rabbits, sheeps and small pigs. Everywhere you have adventurous playgrounds. Be sure, the children will keep you busy.
The Zoo has a Aquarium, too. With a lot of different species of fish and other sea creatures, like sharks, seals and fishs in all colours. Next to it you find crocodiles, snakes and other reptiles.
A must go! You can loose yourself an when the final announcement comes, that the Zoo is closing, you will wish for more time.
