Zoo van Antwerpen Reviews
a fun day between some amazing animals Dec 25, 2011
The Antwerp Zoo is located next to the central station smack in the middle of the city centre of Antwerp.
Although you might think that it is a small zoo because of its location you couldn't be more wrong. When you want to see all the animals you can easily spend a whole day inside.
As in most zoos you will find also here your typical animals like monkeys, lions, elephants and other fantastic species big and small.
Since 2009 the zoo became a bit famous thanks to Kai-Mook, the first female elephant born in Belgium. After years of research in the breeding programm of Asian elephants, they finally had a big breakthrough with little Kai-Mook.
With this success, the zoo itself became more and more popular.
The last decade they also invested in modern facilities for the animals which makes it more pleasant to watch them in their "natural habitat" and not in the steal cages they used to sit in when I was a kid and visited this zoo.
They also have a nice feeding programm which is fun to watch to, it is best to ask the programm at the entrance of the zoo or you can take a leaflet yourself next to the ticket booths.
The entrance fee isn't all that cheap, about 21 euro for an adult, 17 euro for children (3 to 17 years), toddlers have free passage.
They have a few small children's playgrounds near the "restaurants". Don't expect to be served something healthy, it is mainly fastfood! It is possible to bring your own food with you. Throughout the domain they have several resting places with benches and tables to have your own special picknick between the animals!
If you are citytripping in Antwerp and you want to do something different for a change ... try this zoo, you won't be disappointed.
