Zizzi, Charlotte Street London Reviews
Sep 12, 2006
Situated amidst the bustle of Charlotte Street Zizzi is a large and spacious pizza restaurant that manages to avoid the clichéd "Italiana" that often creeps into these sort of places (ie non-Italian owned.)
The décor inside reminded me more of a modern Thai restaurant which was a bit odd but nothing to worry about. The room was large spacious and subtly lit whilst keeping an inviting and warm atmosphere.
The menu is the usual pizzeria affair but the food on offer is way above the standard fare you tend to get in these sort of places. Eschewing the usual American style pizza with soft bases they instead go for proper Italian style stone baked bases covered in rich delicious toppings.
I have to say this was probably the nicest pizza I've had since I was in Rome itself. Baked in a proper wood burning oven they were rich and bursting with flavour and were pretty sizable considering the price so I was certainly a happy bunny.
For once drinks were reasonably priced and there was even the option of buying a half bottle of wine which was ideal for the solo diner. The service was quick and friendly with constant but unobtrusive care and really couldn’t be faulted.
All in all it turned out to be an excellent choice all round and somewhere I'd definitely return to given the chance.
