Great campground with an even better location Aug 31, 2012
With the Watchman Campground fully booked for this long weekend, we had no other choice than this campground. In the end, it was a great choice. The South Zion Campground is located just past the Zion Entrance and was a very reasonable $16 per night. The only downside is that there are no reservations. It is strictly on a first come first serve basis. Knowing this fact, we timed our arrival at the campground to arrive very early in the morning. While driving around looking for a site, I saw a couple packing up their campsite and waited patiently for them to leave. Despite having no shade and an abundance of ants, our site was very close to the Virgin River and a nearby trail that lead to the nearby Zion Visitors Center. Also, the campground was just a few minutes drive to a nearby market which would prove to be very convenient after discovering all the items we had forgotten to bring. There were 3 bathrooms in the campground but the facilities were very basic and contained no showers. Another drawback to the campground was there are no electrical outlets to charge cell phones or digital cameras. I will definitely stay at this campground again the next time I visit Zion
