Just a campsite, not many amenities Sep 10, 2011
Zion campsite is located off A104, near Kwa Kuchinja to the east of Lake Manyara, about 6 km from the entrance to Tarangire National Park in Tanzania. Don't expect anything in the way of amenities here, even for a campsite. The locale itself is rather depressing looking, the toilets are squat variety, the showers don't seem to work all that well, and the toilets & shower areas are quite dirty looking. There is a common area that was well lit, and while I didn't see that any food is served, it does appear one might get a cold coke or beer here. Other than that small amenity, there is little to offer here. It's a barren place, and rather scruffy looking, but it's cheap too (~$10/night). It was dry season too and maybe it looks more inviting with greenery. If you are not particular and just need a place to pitch a tent for the night, then it will do, otherwise I can not recommend it. I think you might do better somewhere else - and at the very least you can't do much worse than this probably. I wouldn't even think of staying here for more than a night. The location is good and it is much cheaper than camping inside Tarangire National Park. For us, it served the purpose for the night and we didn't need much more. It did seem safe there, however, and we didn't have any problems with that. We packed up and headed to Tarangire National Park the next morning, which was only a short drive away.

Were there two days; might be cheap but it was pretty dirty (let's say bearable by local standards) but most of all, even if it was not yet peak season, second day there was NO WATER by 7 in the morning, which was very annoying.
And no one to notice.
Another problem it is that the campsite lies along a road, therefore you will live in clouds of dust starting from very early in the morning (by 5.30 am) when offloads loaded with tourists begin to run for Tarangire park.
From here the centre of the park is quite far and if you have limited Km on your safari it will burn some of them.

From the way it looks it seems more of a transit site when on a long safari drive.....Tnx for all your information.
