Ziferblat - more of a workspace than a cafe Sep 17, 2015
Realistically, despite my best efforts over the last few years, you are more likely to be in Manchester for work than fun. It’s that kind of a city.

Ziferblat is a business that capitalises on the trend for home working and freelancing. You pay for the time you spend there, rather than for drinks or food. After clocking in at the desk you have access to as much coffee, tea, water, squash, breakfast cereal and cake as you want (this tends to mean the first time you visit you are massively over-caffeinated and then calm down) for the time you are there. There are loads of power points for your computer charger, a cool sound track (last three songs to play whilst I’ve been here today – Fela Kuti Water Don’t Get No Enemy, Something by Badly Drawn Boy and some Lou Reed. Although someone has just started playing the piano…). There are board games (and that piano). Wifi is not only included, but fast.

Basically, even by the high hipster standards of the Northern Quarter, this is hipster central. Probably not the best place to come if you work best in silence or have phone calls to take. But if you have conscientiously booked a cheap advance ticket for a train to save your employer some money and find your meeting cancelled, it’s a great place to come to get on with some emails whilst you are waiting for the train.
