Zierikzee is a small city on Zeeland (Sealand) Zierikzee is a part of the municipality of Schouwen-Duiveland. In the year 976 was Zierikzee known as Creka (creek)
In 2001, the town of Zierikzee had 10313 inhabitants.
In 1953 Zierikzee was damaged by a catastrophic flood. The English town of Hatfield sent help and a friendship has developed. The two towns have been twinned.
The city is beautiful and is a protected historical city.
Zierikzee counts 568 registrated monuments. The most famous monument is the St.-Lievensmonstertower ("de Dikke Toren"). This tower looks like the St.-Romboutstower in Mechelen, Belgium.
