ZicZac Rock Hotel Zurich Reviews
Spartan but located perfectly Dec 28, 2008
I spent a night at the ZicZac Rock Hotel as I couldn't find a hostel any more. And still I'm a bit unhappy to have paid almost 60 Euro for a room which had rather the standard of a normal hostel than a proper hotel.
The location (in the Niederdorf) is really perfect, though - just between all the bars and restaurants. Oh, and it's fairly close to the main station, only about 5-10 minutes by foot. I had booked a room with a shared bathroom and so I stayed at Tina Turner's room :-). But I still wonder about the name as I couldn't find ANYTHING about her. Everything was very spartanic and the furniture didn't match to each other at all. However, it was clean and there was a small TV to make the place a bit more comfortable. Alas, I almost couldn't sleep that night at all. But this wasn't due to the bed, it was even surprisingly comfortable. It was rather because of the walls being very clearaudient so that I heard the people walking around in the corridor and my roomneighbours talking (but it was only a mumbling I heard). At 8 am, after maybe one or two hours of sleep I was awoken again by a sound outside...a building site or so, I don't know. They also offer breakfast from 6.30 to 10.30 I think. Two croissants and coffee/tea for 5 francs and frosties for 2,50. Nevertheless I decided to have breakfast somewhere else as this sweet stuff is not for me. All in all I thiink it's ok if you don't want to stay long and are only seeking for a place to hit the sack after a long night. Otherwise I would suggest to look for something else, as they don't exaggerate with comfort and the rooms are pretty expensive Part of the Last Swiss remains of Christmas travel blog |

ZicZac Rock Hotel Aug 19, 2007
ZicZac Rock Hotel is located in the city center of Zurich. From the Zurich Haupbahnhof, it's about 20 minutes of walking. You'll be crossing the bridge, going towards the Grossmunster. I paid 85 CHF/53 EUR for one room, a bit pricey. Since I only have two days to spend here, I didn't mind paying that much. For longer stays, I suggest to look for much cheaper hotel/hostel. There's nothing extravagant with my room. Even though the hotel's theme was Rock 'N Roll, there's not much of that feeling you'll get in your room. Aside from vynyls on displays and my room was named after a rock band (The Police), there's no other distinction from any other room. The floors were squeeking and the communal bathroom was really small. One thing I like about this hotel was the staff. They were very friendly. There's a lot of restaurants nearby and eventhough it's located in the central area, noise wasn't a problem at all. I slept like a baby...until you hear other people walking around the hallways with the squeeking floors.
