Zhengyuan Dazhaimen Restaurant Beijing Reviews
May 04, 2007
When we first walked into Dazhaimen we were ceremoniously greeted by ten traditionally dressed ladies in two rows on either side of the entryway. The last one in the row led us to our table.
We requested a table near the stage, but unfortunately all of the 2 person tables are in the back. If you want to be near the stage, go with a party of at least 4 people.
The service was excellent. Our server seemed to be taking care of only 3 or 4 tables other than ours and he could see our table from his station so it was always very easy to get his attention.
We ordered some taro tea which had little tapioca pearls in the bottom and both of us thought it was delicious. We also got some fried rice, a beef dish, and some garlic broccoli.
The beef dish was surprisingly expensive, but we decided to splurge thinking it might be something special to justify the price. It was okay, but nothing special. On the other hand, the broccoli was excellent. I know, i know, it's just garlic broccoli. What can I say, I loved it.
The performances were kind of hit and miss. But added nicely to the atmosphere.
The one bad bit of service came at the end of the meal when it took them way too long to sort our our receipt. We had already paid properly and just wanted our change, but they took their time pondering over some mix up over which bill belonged to which table before getting our change to us.
