Under the freeway bypass. . .Park by graffiti in ghetto . . Dive bar on corner . . .
Enter Zeitgeist!! Frolicking amongst various greens with the crazies, partying with pink elephants, and smelling the sweet rotiserre turning, this bar is a rare and suprising gem that guarentees to be an amazing experience. |

Definitely Hit up Zeitgeist!! Jul 27, 2008
On a gorgeous (or even just pleasant) day in SF, you will always find me at Zeitgeist! Yes the bartenders can be a little pretentious but that is zeitgeist's charm! Awesome backyard filled with picnic tables and great beers on tap!
It's also a great place to meet locals!.. Don't be scared by the tough exterior, order a beer and a burger (follow the rules!) and kick back and make new friends! TIP... Wait for Virginia, the "Tamale Lady" she usually comes through around 5 or 6. BEST Tamales steaming hot and super cheap. Shes a legend around these parts! She's been doing it for years and put her kids through college selling Tamales!! Support Virginia!! :) |

Nothing like a little outdoor drinking and tamales Jun 10, 2008
With its big backyard full of picnic tables, Zeitgeist kind of reminds me of a high school quod, which makes it a bit annoying when its croweded. Just about everything else totally makes up for that, though: pint glass mixed drinks, perfect bloody marys, pitchers upon pitchers of beer, home fries cooked to order, and nightly visits by the Tamale lady. We always end up going to Zeitgeist a little toooo often in the summer, since it's one of the only places in the city with lots of outdoor seating. Get there early, grab a whole table for all your friends, enjoy the sunshine and drink up.

on our 3rd night we checked out "ZEITGEIST", i'm not sure, but i guess it was in the south-market area. most customers stayed in its backyard. there were tables and benches...and it all looked like a cheap "oktoberfest" in san francisco... however without the party mood. we had a few drinks… Photographs of San Francisco |
