Zegyo Hotel, Mandalay, Myanmar

Well after a grueling day driving from Kalaw to Mandalay, the entrance to the Zegyo hotel was less than enthralling.  It is on a busy street and you walk through a bustling, dirty, indoor marketplace selling a lot of junk to a dingy elevator with a very friendly, non-English speaking “bellman”.  Once upstairs, things improve and the people at the front desk in the lobby are friendly (but none to fluent in English).  The rooms are a bit tattered but reasonably comfortable and reasonably clean and the hot water and AC worked (when there was electricity which in Myanmar, is not always!).  The restaurant was actually quite good and, in addition to a pretty good breakfast, we ate dinner there a couple of times.  Read the blog entry for their interesting pricing policy.  Best of all, they have icy cold Myanmar Draught beer.  Not a bad place to stay in Mandalay
